I've got one of these, but a '94. It handles like its on rails. Its highly, highly underrated sporting car. I will not be getting rid of the car untill it returns back to dirt

I LOVE the design of the SC! The fact that John Davis said it resembles a Firebird is right on the money. My whole life I've called these "Baby Firebirds". Kind of like the old Opel GT which was a "Baby Corvette"!

Wow, them things were quick for only 124 HP!

Plastic bodies kept the weight down and the torque/gearing helped it get off the line quickly. The 87-mph trap speed is consistent with the car's power-to-weight ratio.

Yup, not bad considering a 5.0 Stang back then would do 15-15.5 seconds in the quarter mile

The manual tranny was sprightly and responsive. The automatic less so.

I thought these cars were ugly when I was a kid. Now, they’re not bad. These used to be everywhere.

These do handle pretty well. I had a buddy in HS who took me for a ride on some backroads in his SC, it smelled like gasoline inside and he took it around corners at 75 mph. Absolutely terrifying

My niece had one of those! She put way over 200 thousand miles on it before giving it to my brother! And then he put almost another 100k on it too! Of course they always kept the maintenance on it! It was a great car and engine.

My mother had one of these. She bought it brand new and kept it until 2011. It had over 300,000 miles on it, the AC didn’t work, the rear bumper was red while the rest of it was black from someone who hit her at a stop sign/light, the fog lights were broken from when she slid on ice and hit someone because New Hampshire hasn’t discovered ice melt yet and when it rained she sat in a puddle because the door didn’t seal properly. She loved it, I loved it. Now it’s gone, probably got junked a decade ago now. I miss it, I want my own but there’s almost none around anymore. What I’d give to have one though

Had one in High School and put a HotShot Cold Air Intake on it and it woke up a little and sounded amazing! Unfortunately it was no match when faced between a 17 year old me and a curb, sideways at ~45MPH... RIP

I own a 1999 SC2 here in 2024, somebody hit it and knocked the side mirror off so I bought another one at autozone for only $35 to replace it, I like the cheap parts for these.....

I bought a 1992 SC in 1995, had that car until 2007 and almost 200,000 miles. It looked almost exactly like the one in this video except the rims were different. I only got $200 for it so I kind of wish I kept it but traded it in for a 2007 Ion. Had that one for 9 years until it was totalled in 2016. I really enjoyed my Saturns and wish they were still around. ☹

Did this thing weigh 1200 lbs? Have insane gearing with a useless 5th? How the heck did they get that kind of 0-60 time with so little power?
@ragingbull94mtx
@ragingbull94mtx Жыл бұрын
LOL, 2,380lbs to be specific. But yea, low weight, short gears, good bottom end torque = quick 0-60 times. The 87 mph trap speed is consistent with the car's power-to-weight ratio, though.

I didn't know this had proper IRS, always assumed it was just a GM twist beam. I have a Vette from the same era so getting one of these doesn't make sense, but if I were a young man getting a new car in the 90s this would be a top contender.

What a IDIOTIC statement. In it's early years Saturn competed successfully with the imports and outsold several of them. It had some of the highest owner retention and satisfaction ratings in the industry. In fact they were higher than many luxury imports. They also had a stellar record for reliability and durability. I live in a suburb of Chicago and still see dozens of these in daily use and the environment in Chicago is not conducive to automotive longevity.

Tell me about it. I've been driving my "junk" Saturn for 23 years now, and I bought it used. It's actually been on the road for almost 27 years. Total trash, cars that last that long. Jeez.
