1992 Sony VCR blue loading gear repair

Sony SLV-750HF P1 guide repair and blue loading gear replacement. I originally wasn't going to fix this one and released a "non-repair" video. A viewer commented and suggested that the issue sounded like a broken blue loading gear. He was correct but the original cause was a broken pin on the P1 guide arm.

Thanks so much for showing that broken pin on the P1 guide was causing the issue. I have a similar problem with a Sony VCR and while I replaced the tape and ensured that the alignment was correct, I was flummoxed why the VCR wasn’t working well. I’m going to dig through my other broken VCRs for a replacement part, but if all else fails, I thing I might go with your fix. Thanks a bunch! 👍

Thanks for commenting. I think that broken plastic pin is a common problem with that vintage of Sony VCR's. The "nail" fix is still working. I use that VCR regularly for doing VHS digitizing. Good luck with your VCR and let me know how the repair goes.

yeah - i just bought this one for like $8 the other day...brought it home...ate the tape...took it apart and sure enough...broken gear! thanks for at least helping me find closure...

Sorry to hear that you got a bad one. If you are adventurous you could try to fix it. However with the price of VCR's at the thrift stores it may not make economic sense.

Got one myself that was $10, but no remote or cords and the unit loads partially, but it ate a tape. Found the issue, which is that blue loading roller and tape guide arm that is loose and stuck backwards, so I gotta source a geat for it. Not a bad unit from 1992-1993, but in the meantime, I should hold off on watching movies on my Orion for a while (its VCR is broken as well).

Good luck with your "Blue Gear" repair. It's not too difficult, just a little fiddley. Purely a mechanical repair. Be careful with the alignment.

Thanks for the video;are you experts on old VCR?; i have an old VCR Sony SLV N60 and I'm trying to use the vcr as a RF converter to send video from a streaming box via HDMI to an HDMI to RCA converter to RF coaxial to the hole Apt ,i was able to make the set up and connection ,i connected RCA cables to VCR input line 1 but in order to see video from the streaming box i have to put a tape in the vcr and press play and i can stop play and video stays on. I have to do this process every time i turn on VCR .Any clues why? thanks

Wow, that's a complicated process. I'm not sure why you have to load a tape every time to make it work.
