A shame we can't get bargains like that here in the UK from our equivalent of thrift stores, Charity Shops. Most don't handle electrical items due to the requirements for them to have basic electrical safety tests (PAT Testing) and those that do seem to check Ebay listings and price much the same. Many even list electrical items on Ebay in preference to selling them in their shops.

Big government. Gotta love it. The thrifts here in the USA (Washington State, anyway) mostly voluntarily test electrical items for function, or they won't sell them. This prevents disposal in people's trash.

I am glad I stumbled upon this. Nice, well, amazing find, and nice video. The macro mode camera part on the head drum t was particularly great!

I got a similar Sony VCR for use in my Hi-fi setup (which sounds amazing btw). The unfortunate part was I initially couldn't get it to work (recording was an issue I think). I had to purchase the remote from Ebay (15 dollars). Turns out I was right, I had to change just one setting to get it to function properly. While I am glad I got it to work, it stinks that it was just one setting that caused this whole fiasco.

When u think how much a decent vhs hifi vcr Used to cost in its heyday, its trippy seeing then for 5 or 10 bucks now... Back in the day, I had a higher end mitsubishi that had damaged video heads..I like it so much I ordered new heads for it and replaced them for around 120 bucks... it was a 600 dollar machine so wprth it at the time, thought laughable to think of spending Anything on these old machines now... I still have a bunch of old vcrs that still get used for hi fi audio only playback... in this role, they are pretty incredible for the cheap price u can grab one for... I had a huge collection of vhs tapes used to record DMX streaming music when that was a thing.. these recordings are done in ep vhs mode and are 6 hrs ,ad free and super high quality audio..ive got jazz, rock, newage ect and these old vcr's ,hooked to a home theater reciever, put out a killer sound... as far as watching an actual video on one, no, once you have seen and used a 4k screen, looking at one of these struggle to do 240-480p is unwatchable...

My first VHS HI-FI machine i purchased brand new was an RCA VKT550 (first RCA (Hitachi made) HIFI machine, that came with a copy of Footloose, and sounded so good!) was $820 and that was the dealer price as I was a selling RCA dealer at that time and purchased it at cost. I did record many LP albums on VHS HIFI and still have them to this day. The audio quality was "perfect" in my opinion compared to a cassette tape. I do agree that the video quality was dismal at best. Thank you.

I'm sure there are millions of universal remotes at thrift store that will work with this, especially the direct tv and sony tv ones.
@BilisNegra Жыл бұрын
I'm sure they will cost almost as much as the VCR itself, but well, that's very much because of it having been so crazily cheap of a deal.
@zx8401ztv Жыл бұрын
Well that is great for the price, At one point in time you could buy a remote that had a sheet with codes for many devices. Hopefully you can still get one. Vcr's are still useful.

How do you change it to channel 3 ? I dont have a remote
@bobbyk6585 Жыл бұрын
Wow, based on your potential selling price a standard VHS cleaning is worth at least $30. In the midwest no one will pay even $10. They'd rather toss the device. My shop shut down as a result.

Don't all VCRs that can play EP tapes have 19 micron heads?
@norcal715 Жыл бұрын
Only the latest models had 19 micron heads. The pre "19" micron units were usually 38 micron heads as they overwrote the video information and with the different azimuth it effectively erased the "not used" other 19 microns of the video track.
