1992 Toyota Land Cruiser HZJ75 Full Restoration Project
This 1992 HZJ75 hails from the heavy-duty side of the 70 series - which includes some of the most beloved Land Cruisers of all time. This particular ride was restored and customized for a family in Austin, Texas, who wanted a Land Cruiser that doubles as a daily driver and a serious overlander.
Adventure-Ready Design
To create this build, we took an authentic multipurpose vehicle and transformed it into a family fun mobile. You’ll know it’s an HZJ75 by its black radiator grille, the round headlights, and that iconic SUV shape. But you’ll know you’re in for the time of your life when you see those big matte black wheels. That snorkel rising from the top. The mounted jack. The massive bull bar bumper with PIAA fog lights. And THAT roof rack - the one that can carry your tent, your kayak, your extra luggage or your snowboard, and looks good doing it.
Off-Road Mastery
This HZJ75 lives up to the Land Cruiser legend and then some. At the heart of this operation is a 130-horsepower Toyota 1HZ diesel engine backed by a new Toyota 5-speed transmission - a combination that’s a favorite with enthusiasts. As with many of our other builds, we upgraded this Land Cruiser to Old Man Emu suspension and revitalized the brakes and power steering. However, this build is also equipped with ARB lockers that give you extra traction on demand, as well as a dual battery setup that powers accessories separately from the starter engine.
Inner Strength
We stayed true to the original HZJ75 cabin design, infusing it with super-tough materials and modern amenities. Marine-grade vinyl with retro-style stitching lines the front seats, a foldable custom rear bench, and door panels, while Raptor liner keeps the floor looking fresh and scratch-free. The cabin includes the original A/C, and a five-speaker premium sound system powered by a marine-grade JL Audio amplifier. Two 12v outlets keep your gear charged up, while the iPhone and Bluetooth-enabled receiver makes it easy to make a call or listen to your favorite playlists.

Working on a major gas pipeline in the north of Western Australia when these models were new, my work car was upgraded to one of these. What a bonus that HZJ engine was! Could actually sit on the speed limit on the highway when heading back home after a week of working away. And they just drove beautifully on the dirt roads, and we did thousands of kilometres on the dirt. Bullet proof. Nice trick is to lock the front hubs and drive in 2WD on the dirt and when you hit the loose stuff just back off the accelerator and pull the transfer case lever into 4WD and the car just went like it was on rails after that.

They drove like a tractor! and were not comfortable at all, even now with a updated 2018 model you have to put in quite a lot of sound deadening and insulation mating to the entire inside of the car to make it even reasonable, the seats are like a park bench as well.

@@jasonswift7098 my work vehicle was the same year, 1992, brand new. Back then there wasn't anything to compare in that class of work vehicle for driving mostly on Gascoyne and Murchison dirt roads. So I'm not sure what you are comparing to.

I have a 75 series Troopy 97 model. Beige and brown interior. 462ks on the clock. I've looked after this vehicle and In return have had nothing but the best value out of this 23 year machine.Its a keeper....but I'd all ready decided that about 5 years ago
