Had a 1991.. loved it..Learned quickly that dropping a few gears and nailing the throttle (as I used to on my FZR) coming through a corner, was a lesson in torque and terror mixed together.. one of a very few bikes you can leave in top gear around town and the power is always there

Just put my 1992 3XW back on the road after 9 years laid up. Had to rebuild carbs due to stale fuel gumming but runs great now. Removed the ABS many years back as pump had seized. Fitted new Metzelers this week and all ready for some summer fun.

Nice, I sold mine last summer and have just replaced it with a Honda Blackbird which I have to say is a better bike all round - but FJ12s are still great machines.

I sold my FJ a year ago and miss it dearly. I never had it jump out of 2nd gear. Yes the clutch slipped sometimes but never often enough to do work on it. Had to bleed the clutch often! Removed ABS was a huge improvement as was converting the rear wheel to an FZR 1000 . I ride an R1 now but still missing the FJ

Cheers mate. I have just been given one to add to my collection from an Auld chap who looked after it and hardly rode it, in fact from 2005 at its MOT it had done 25435 miles and the last time it was tested in 2015 it had only done 26483 miles so I am looking forward to getting it tidied up and back on the road. Hi from Scotland by the way I'll be in touch if I need any bits or advice if you don't mind Sir.

Beautiful bike. ----- One of my favorite Yamaha buys was my first 1982 Yamaha Seca 650 Turbo. That bike was just all day comfortable, great fairing and wind/rain protection, and of course crank past 6,500rpm and hold on...lol. Mine was pristine in 2002 from a great guy in Detroit. $1,250 for the bike and I told him I would have paid him twice that when I saw the bike delivered. Damn delivery cost $500 to Florida. ----- My opinion of the FJ1200 - Classic, badass, beautiful, and I will have one some day most likely...lol. ---- Look into getting an MRA wind deflector for the windscreen. I've used them on many bikes and they are wonderful. That way you keep the stock screen. No holes drilled as you can use a clamp system. Run about $120.00. ----- screw Corbin! Get a Sargent saddle. More comfortable. Corbin's ARE hard, and depending on material they can be slippery as well.-------. Right now I have a 1986 Yamaha SRX-600.

great bikes easy to work on, some clutch modifications or riding moderately would put you on the clear. second gear issue in the older models pre-89 they say. plenty of torque... kookaloo ready. great back up of people who would help you with any issues you present them with, part available a lot. I got this same bike, but with ABS... I am not sure how good they are but I know I had a couple brake slippery and they were really controlled, did not lose the bike to the floor, not like that night just parking underground... damn they are hard to rise up! they are heavy motorcycles. so you better keep up, most of that mass really well-distributed thou, they feel very neutral for such a big bike easy to ride even for peep who are not legends riders but know what they are doing, this was my third... or fourth bike and I just handle it softly, it has great torque in the low rumble and everywhere else... Now dealing with a shifter issue. Trying to sort it out. I love this bike!

First year for the fj1100 was 84 my friend, not 85. Still have the dealer poster on my garage wall. I'm running an 89 FJ1200 at the moment. I paid $850 CAD for it and it runs stellar (after carb rebuild) but it needs cosmetic work. Very enjoyable bike, even for my busted up ol' bod. +1 on raised bars, but lowered pegs would scrape to much for me with my "pace". Excellent advice on a quality chain, these bikes eat crap chains and it takes out the rear crankcase face when it goes = scrapped engine. Enjoyed your vid. Cheers :)

Its a 50k miler with full Givi rack and boxes (which I think I'm going to ditch), just needs new discs on the front which the seller has let me have brand new ones for a decent price, an overall service and then good to go. Can't wait to get it on the road and get a load of that torque.

I bought last year a FJ1100 84 for 400$ and two weeks ago a FJ1200 86 for spare parts but the engine is running and complete bike for...100$! I had to replace the entire exhaust system on the 1100 and put Jardine Sonicore slip-on,that I got on Ebay for 150$ brand new.Steering damper was added,pod air filters,new brake pads and seals,master cylinders piston kit (brake and clutch),slave clutch seals.I found out that the previous owner put stainless steel brake lines and a Dynatek Dyna 2000 digital ignition controller.At this moment,I'm modifying the subframe,tail assembly and seat of the 1200 by cutting 9 inch of lengh to have a solo seat look and everything works perfectly.For safety and efficiency there's LED flashers and...oh...some frame sliders.

You can get a big bore 4 into 1 that fits but its tight and you have to trim bits off the belly pan - we run ours with a 60mm bore titanium can - we put Brembo 4 pots and early R1 320mm floating discs - its well fast but thirsty 22-35mpg
@lr8820279 жыл бұрын
+Trev S Yeah, not really arsed about getting a 4-1, quite happy with stock though like I said I would like to find some better flowing mufflers that have a bit more growl. I put a pair of blue dot calipers on the front, the front brakes are now phenomenal - at a cost of $36 bucks for a set of used ones and fitted in 20 minutes.
@trevortrevortsr29 жыл бұрын
lr882027 We took our brakes from a racing Ducati but had to bin the anodized alloy fitting for stainless when they corroded - We took out titanium silencer off a much modded Bandit 1200 - we did find the bike overheated in traffic on 40 deg C + European tours - we managed to fit a 14 row oil cooler and 250cc quad bike electric fan instead of the old 5 row cooler that cured it It went over the Alps 6 times & Pyrenees 4 - Out fastest run was on French the auto-route where we went 120-145 mph two up and used a full tank in a hour - We were keen to join a tour of the Maginot fort and were running late
