This is a GREAT video. Well filmed and shows a great step by step. There are always unanticipated events so I think I’m gonna send my car to the shop, but, nice job !!!👍👍

Disconnecting the fuel filler and vent was not necessary, unscrew the 4 screws holding the filler to the bed, less chance of dirt getting into the tank.

Make sure you have 12 volts going to your electric fuel pump on your Dakota also check your ground coming out of the fuel pump, it could b the problem, I had 5 volts and the pump would run for a few minutes then leave me stranded on the highway. my ground was good.
@deadman120787 жыл бұрын
It was a replacement not a diagnosis. Get your point and you are correct. Always check to make sure that you have a good ground and the correct current is going to the motor before you embark on an expensive and time consuming part replacement. Otherwise you end up playing "musical parts". I've seen fuel pumps die many ways: Some run fine for 20 miles, then the engine starts sputtering on the highway/street. Put transmission in neutral turn engine off then back on and the engine runs fine again. You can drive 30 miles with no signs. Turn engine off and a fuse blows. Replace the fuse and you're good until you turn the engine off. Though on short trips to the store or such nothing happens and the vehicle is fine. Some fuel pumps die outright... Then you get a weak fuel pump that the vehicle will run but it'll feel as if the fuel filter is clogged, no power. That is the issue the Dakota had for a few weeks until it finally died.

I took out all eight-bed bolts disconnected fuel fill hose from the side of bed unplugged the wiring harness in the back and undid the spare tire lowering device. Called up three friends and we picked up the bed and set it on a couple of saw horses. Doing it that way I was done and drinking beer with my three friends in less than an hour. Dilly - Dilly

I say cut out the sheet metal over the pump. Easiest way by far. Fold the metal back down put a hinge on it. Specially with a old truck like that.
@deadman120785 жыл бұрын
Seen that. Works too but then have sharp metal in work area and Sparks and gas make it fun. No bed liner so have that seam. This was quick and easy. A few bolts and a jack.

well GOOD SHIT there ya go Thats a real project there. I had an 1988 with 237000 that ran the same, had to part ways though. I'll never forget that truck "Big Red," wish I could've done with it what your doin with yours. I'm all about maintence though, oil changes every 3000 miles and so on. i'm actually leaving my house in like 5 minutes to the junkyard to get a bumper, coolant tank, fuel filler neck, heater switch, ashtray, door panel, and window visors for my 1998 sport 4x4. In 16 years and 249000 miles the only things to break and go bad are either plastic or made overseas >.
@deadman120788 жыл бұрын
Yes, had to replace the frame and the crossovers they were so rusted out. Truck has 290,000 miles on it. 1993 Dodge Rams have allot of life in them if they're cared for. That little shitbox doesn't get much love and has still managed to live past 23 years. You can't buy reliability like that. Have seen trucks that are not even ten years old rot out, break down and die...

Obviously lives up north where they salt the roads in winter. That's what causes all that rust. Also I have a 93 Dakota and I've had similar problems, chances are it wasn't the fuel pump but the fuel pump electrical connection is loose.... more than likely with all that weathering underneath and these dakotas from that generation are notorious for electrical issues.

@@michaelmask7296 I'm already married.... A 30 year old vehicle in the northern states is a rarity. The body/frame and wiring will be about shot by then. Unless it's a seasonal vehicle where you only drive it summers. I spent about four days rebuilding the frame on the Dakota filmed. I bought the truck off my my boss who turned crackhead for $400 and gave to my dad who drove for nearly ten years as a work truck. Another vehicle was a 96 explorer I bought and after a few years I sold to my sister then my father bought them was sold to my brother.... You can only keep a vehicle so long before it's not worth keeping. It may run great but the seats and such may wear out.. or just get tired of.... I currently own and drive a 2003 Chevy Silverado and a Dodge Neon. Again, you can only repair vehicles ft so long before you just get tired of them. I'm going to be scrapping the Neon next week even though I live driving it I rarely get to drive it because I can't fit all my tools in it or can't plow with it. If you want to "meet" me I'm up for it. dumbasmudclayton@gmail.com is my email.

Haha I wouldn't mind seeing that. You can look on my channel, I swapped the frame on mine with a clean one, but I have video of me hitting the old frame with a hammer and a video of the new frame. Unfortunately it looks like I'm gonna have to do a job on a newer ('02) Silverado too...Chevy missed the boat by a country mile on corrosion protection. So I'd be interested in seeing what you came up with even though it's a different vehicle..
