I have owned 2 Tempras and a Tipo and I would happily have another as a weekend plaything if I had the space. I had a 90 Tempra 1.9D saloon for a year which was slow but still a good cruiser. Also a 95 1.9 TD SX saloon which I ran for nearly 11 years and was one of the most comfortable and reliable cars I have ever owned. Tempras had a full 10 inches of travel in their suspension so it had a supremely comfortable ride. Finally, I also had a 89 Tipo 1.9 Tds which I bought damaged and I repaired it and put it back on the road.

I can not put it into words of how much I love this car. It just looks so perfect and drives beautifully and was a giant step up from its' predecessor, the Regata. It has such a minimalist styling and soul, something a lot of cars of the time didnt have, I'm looking at you Nissan Bluebird and mk5 Escort/mk3 Orion. I especially love the saloon but an estate would also be considerable. I saw quite a lot of them in Turkey beacause they were built there by a turkish car company called Tofaş, who also built their own Models based on the Fiat 131 and 124 and other Fiat Products such as the Doblo, Marea and Tipo. What a great Video this is, it must At least be my 15th time watching it, absolutely enjoyed my stay. THANK YOU MATT

The doors go 'clunk' and not 'ping'; I suspect Fiats like this don't last as they as they should because people in the UK don't look after them as a long term purchase. A shame because there is so much brilliant design in these motors. Yes the cars fall short in terms of build quality, but Land Rovers/Ranger Rovers/Jaguars don't? A bit of car snobbishness going on I suspect. A very nice car, pretty sure if it had been built in the UK there would be loads of them on the road. Driven into the ground with minimal servicing is perhaps the typical service history. I like the roomy, well lit, cabin and the comfy seats. Hurrah for Fiat!

The way my neighbours close and open their car doors, means the doors fling back bending the hinges, and when closing they smash the door through the otherside of the frame. It literally can sound like a bomb going off.

Yep, pure brand snobbery. Probably linked to the UKs obsession with WW2 Germany the efficient technical Giants, French idiosyncrasy but oddball, Italian exciting but unreliable

I’ve always loved these. But I’ve always like the 80s/ 90s Fiats. I drove a Fiat Uno start 1.0ie when I was 17 ( my mums) It was one of the last on an N reg and about two yrs old at the time. I loved its quirky interior. Sadly, all these fiats are almost extinct. Really sad.

Well, this is like a history of my company cars: first the bluebird (succeeded by an awful 405), then a Tempra. I had the 2litre TDSX and it was brilliant. For just 90 odd bhp it was quick with a lot of torgue (wheelspin in second). I loved these so much that my wife had two Tipos and my son a Tempra SW! Next on my list (and yours perhaps) was a 1996 Honda Accord diesel! Great review and reminded me so much of the pleasure I had with that car.

We had a 1.9 TD SX saloon in a dark metallic gunmetal it had blue velour seats with tartan centre panels. I put KYB shocks on it and it was a really quick economical and roomy car. It was replaced by a Marea Weekend which is still our daily driver. The Tempra stayed in the family for about 20 years giving excellent service.

Used to own a rare Tipo 1.8ie GranTurismo. Dashboard next to useless in bright sunshine (but everything worked on mine), fabulous acceleration from the 8v twin cam, it would rev forever (very easy to over-rev actually), but so-so handling and braking- I think that the setup was per the base vehicle, rather than like the legendary Sedicovalvole. The real joy of it was that it looked like a regular 1.4 Tipo (apart from the unique alloys) it was a real Q car! I remember once keeping up with a Peugeot 205 GTi who's owner was doing his best to lose me... Less good were the typically 'Italian' electrics- sometimes instead of full beam lights in the rain, the headlamps would just switch off... same happened if I tried to dip the lights too quickly- being clumsy (dyspraxic) I would sometime roll the headlamp switch on the stalk to 'off' as I was attempting to dim them.

Wow! 😍 I owned a reddy orange 10 year old Tempra 1.4 base back in 2000. It was nowhere as nice as this SW model - it ran on 3 cylinders. I ended up crashing it into the rear of Polo Breadvan. 😢 Fiat were emulating what Austin Rover did with the Maestro & Montego imo. The Italians did a nicer job.

H151PSF, my third car, was a Tempra 1.6SX Saloon in exactly this colour. I enhanced it with a set of AEZ 'Ecco' 14" alloy wheels. It was 7 years old when I got it, and I loved it - but the lure of cheap finance saw me parting company with it way too soon, traded for a 13 month old Marea TD100SX.

Ideally it would be good if someone was willing to restore it, it’s basically a sound car just needs a lot of TLC. We came terribly close to buying a Tempra estate (used) from am East London Fiat dealer in the early 90s. It was an OK drive and had a lot of room for its size..... But nothing about it was more than OK. It was as characterful as an airport rental, but one we couldn't return at the end of the week. We very nearly nought it, but were saved by a late swerve to a diesel BX. Best decision....

Thanks for uploading. I've had two late eighties BX GTi's (one a 4x4) and an '04 Punto, and this blends features I liked in both. I miss the angular designs of yesteryear but I suppose fuel economy/pedestrian safety demanded smoother bodywork. Comparing the Tempra with today's characterless, super-bloated SUVs, I know which I find the more attractive. I'd miss airbags and icy AC, though Wiki suggests later Tempras had a Climate Control option anyway.

I always fancied one of these back in the day. Loved the styling. FIATs had a terrible reputation for rust back in the early 90s although it was no longer justified, so they made a great second hand buy as the depreciation was very high and you could pick up a bargain, they didn't rust any more than other makes and were reliable. My favourite FIAT is still the Uno.

As a big fan of estate cars I adore this wonderful but old school Fiat Tempra SW, it shared the floorpan of the Tipo hatchback and also shared the mechanicals with the Lancia Dedra believe it or not.

They were the masters of platform sharing. Its the same floor pan as the Fiat Coupe, Alfa GTV, 145, 146 and 155

There was a saloon version with the same diesel engine that went on eBay for about 250 quid a couple of months ago. Was very tempted, but was a little too ropey and I could foresee issues sourcing some parts.

This is a luxurious car from Fiat ansambl! This car was and it's still a pure innovation for some cars of that time and surely for a lot of new time cars.

The only estate I had was a 2013 Vxl Astra 2.0CDTI SRI Sports Tourer. Had wind up windows in the back the last car that had them was my Ford Orion 1.6GL mk2 in 1990.

The illuminated car overview picture that tells you which bulbs are out is a great idea. Even today many cars don't tell you when you have a bulb out, and the amount of people with lights out drives me mad 😡. The police in the UK really don't pull people over enough for this.

Love these early 90s cars and Fiat were on top of their game. Where did it all go wrong?

The Tempra is, IMO, one of those cars where the estate version looks much better than the standard version

Lovely looking car. For some reason, Fiat never sold cars in the USA.

Jason Carpp they did in the 60s and 70s. I think they stopped with the Fiat 131 & X19. You can now get the Fiat 500/ Abarth now in the USA 🇺🇸 .

@@johnchurch4705 I remember seeing Fiats back in the 70s up to the early 80s. I was too young at the time to drive a car. But I remember wondering why they were discontinued from the USA.

I worked at a Fiat dealership and this was one of my favourite cars, turbo diesel manual. We also carried Alfa and Porsche so we all had opportunities to thrash the exotica, but given a choice of one to own or keep I'd have taken a Tempra. Obviously I'm joking it would have been a 155 or the Lancia Thema lulz

Fiat did sell cars in the USA during the 1960s and 1970s, but for some reason discontinued import throughout the 1980s through the 1990s.
