My favorite affordable modification to a freshly built, hot-rodded 1998 SuperHawk 996 (FireStorm) is the modification of one tooth down on the front sprocket and _three_ teeth up on the rear sprocket (44 teeth), with a teflon-coated light-weight Vortex aluminum rear sprocket kit. You can order the one tooth down (stainless), three teeth up (coated aluminum) kit from Vortex, with an OEM (530) chain profile. I'm not racing anyone, so I don't mind losing a little off of the top-end in order to gain the economy and the acceleration on the bottom-end. A nice mod.

Driving home through Matlock Bath in the early nineties a fireblade was parked up on the side of the road and I said to my girlfriend “one day I will have one of those.” Sure enough in 98 I bought the original 92 blade. Having only ridden a Kmx125 on the road it was a massive learning curve for me. I never fell off my blade but I did get a £400 fine and a three month ban for speeding. I sold it shortly afterwards. Good days. Great bike.

Bought mine new in ‘92, 3rd Honda after a 500 Interceptor and ‘87 600 Hurricane. Rode it across the USA and and back and then it was stolen mid oil change. I hope the thieves started it without checking. Replaced it with an identical bike a couple years later and I still have it. Rejetted with a full TBR, otherwise stock. I’ll keep it until my wrists give out.

My all time favorite bike. Picked up a brand new one in August '92, think it was £7250. Wanted the red, white and blue but none available so plumbed for black. Micron end can and dynojet kit later it pumped out 118 bhp. Loved the bike and wished I'd never p'exd it for Triumph Tiger 900

The 2003 pewter-and-black FireBlade CBR954RR, to date, is my personal favorite of all in-line four sport bikes. It is such an elegantly designed, comfortable motorcycle to ride, with a healthy performance edge, to boot. In 2004, I rode one briefly as a loaner from a mechanic, while my SuperHawk 996 (FireStorm) was being rebuilt and upgraded. After the 954RR, Honda altered the FireBlade to have a much more aggressive rider position. That does not work for me, since I experienced a serious back injury in 2004, and I must ride a motorcycle with a sport-touring (3/4) rider position. Whoever recommended that you ride the CBR954RR was not kidding: It is an excellent choice for those with a hankering for a stylish sport bike. I almost bought one instead of again tricking-out last year my 1998 SuperHawk (FireStorm). Both bikes rock!

The 16inch front wheel wasn’t due to weight necessarily chops however is an added bonus, it’s due to there turn In and ‘flick ability’ capability over a 17. But In return makes the front end twitchier and less precise, with modern tech on chassis and suspension it’s not required anymore, keeping a more stable 17 front end.

those "1000cc" old school superbikes are pretty capable, sure the top end is around the modern days supersport 600 but they are still more grunty. My 2005 636 which was milled down was a pure shoulder pulling machine, but it still had not the same umph as an old school srad 750 with the efi. Not even my d675 was as good as old srad750 even though it was a serious weapon for old school 1000cc 2cyl machines. I sure do love some old school inline 4 machines, there is little reason to get a new machines if you have an old one. Well that is if you are seriously talented and have no preservation instincts then an 200bhp missile would be something for you but even that kind of machine is wasted on most tracks in northern Europe(including UK). My first bike was an 1000cc but the older I get the smaller capacity bike I buy, 600cc class are spot on for me but the nc35 I had was pretty fast as well, if it had same pull as an 600 at least to say 150 I would be plenty happy.
