It's quite clear what happened here. I think San Marino were still pretty sure they'd lose this match, but from the point of kick off they planned between them to score that goal straight away just to stir things up a little. It worked (as things occasionally just do in life!), and they caught England off guard from the word go, as from England's point of view it was just the start of an easy match. Good for them though anyway for trying that tactic and making it work just that once.

you might be wise in saying so, but remember, this qualifier was the American Qualifier type, they WANTED big teams out, it could happened to any of the Big teams such as, at a time, the Samba, which insured a place in the subjected world cup in their final game, at home, vs another possible qualified team, the Montevideo side. Tango team also could have missed it, but, the playoff vs a tired legged Oceanic Kangaroos was the tube they slided back in to the mentioned World Cup. Another evidence on how poor was this qualifier had to be obvious at the how scheduled Group 2 been. the Vikings side in this group began the march alone for the first three fixtures, surprisingly two of them vs SMR, and still unbelievably winning vs the Oranges Side. and that's 6 points before first game for the TrioLions, very poor indeed
