1993 - WK 6 - NYJ @ LA [FULL GAME]

Tim Brown and the Raiders host Boomer Esiason and the red hot NY Jets. NY came into this game w/ the #1 offense, but the Raiders defense eventually holds down the Jets offense to keep them in the game. Hoss struggled through out the half and was eventually replaced by Vince Evans who led a 4th qtr comeback in the final seconds for an important early win in the season.

One of the great wins of the 90's. Ol' Methuseleh comin' off the bench to rally the Raiders. Vince Evans was like 77 years old here and balled out.

Brian White He probably still would’ve been an upgrade over E.Anderson and Hoskins he was still an incredibly smart/durable player even in his later years and even though a lot of his athleticism was gone he still had some big play capability once in awhile..however our pass defense and pass rush were still very good in 93 the weakness was no depth at DT behind McGlockton and avg.at best vets at LB which is why unless our line was being disruptive we would often get gashed by backs up the middle and give up chunks of yards to them and TE’s in the passing game..we just weren’t athletic enough there until finally Biekert..Fredrickson..M.Jones..William Thomas..Nap.Harris..E.Barton and Romo came in during the M.White/Joe Bugel years and then the Gruden/Callahan years..but Al’s blind spot of the linebacker position after the Super Bowl years really hurt our late 80’s-early 90’s teams when we had to match up with KC and Buffalo..comparing our linebackers to theirs in those years unfortunately will tell you all you need to know about why we came up short against them both time and again

This game was carried on WNBC-TV (channel 4) in NYC back in 1993. KSFM-TV (channel 9) in El Paso, TX was originally planned to air this game, but they chose The Pittsburgh Steelers playing against the San Diego Chargers instead according “JaguarGator9”.

I love a Vince Evans game. That Chicago had him covering punts before he ever took a snap under center = racism inherent in the system. The Bears, historically, haven't exactly lit up the scoreboard thru the air.

Love these Jet uniforms and that they're at least in part bringing them back. Not a fan of the green pants though, The black pants with white jerseys and green lettering and numbering they have now is a good look. But the green helmet with the concord logo must be brought back permanently. This is a Raider channel but it needed to be said. Thank you...

I definitely remember this one...along with the game against the Redskins the previous season. At this point, I felt like the Raiders were wasting time with Hostetler and Marinovich. Evans may have not been the most consistent QB over his career, but during his time with the Raiders he was the guy who gave them Al Davis’ beloved vertical game. And he was a serious competitor. Al Davis had the equivalent of an Olympic relay team for a receiving corps at the time (Gault, Brown, Wright, and Jett), a decent RB committee, and a solid defense. They just wouldn’t commit to the ol’ skool ground-and-pound and throw deep strategy with Evans. I guess they were more committed to the money they were paying Hoss.

What are you on about? Evans was great as a change of pace off the bench, but he couldn't start and win. Hostetttler was fine until he started getting battered, from his own inability to stay in the pocket. Sacked himself many times.

Rex84 Hoss was serviceable; he was just the wrong QB for the Raiders. He was a guy who needed to be on a ground-and-pound team...which is what the Giants had been. Granted, I never thought he should’ve been made a starter over Simms after the Super Bowl, but he was never the right fit for the Raiders. Al Davis had needed a big-armed QB for his track team. Hoss went where he got the best deal. There were other teams that he was better suited for. The Chargers were more like the Giants (massive ground game and solid receiving corps), but since they ran the same Offense as Washington, Humphries was a better fit. This is also when the Seahawks got rid of Krieg. Hoss would’ve done better than Dan McGwire and Ric Mirer...especially since Chris Warren started to peak at that time. He could’ve replaced Boomer in Cincy. Anywhere but with the Raiders. Bo was gone, so the ground-and-pound was gone, too. Marcus Allen was more of a receiver by then...and in Al Davis’s doghouse. Hence, Hoss’s tenure was very undistinguished, but he was paid handsomely.

@@Odawg96 Evans showed who he was whenever he got to start. We lost an EMINENTLY winnable Monday Night game during that six game losing streak when Evans started in San Diego. 12-6...he was awful. That's who he was. Perfect guy to provide a spark, but absolutely not a starter.

Decision making from my Raiders just like Marino doesn't get drafted from us in 83 after Rozele n the league screwed us again with elway it shoulda been a blessing an in their freakin faces but we don't take him!!!!
