The first year they actually *shortened* the travel on the forks a little bit.. I remember the ad for it with a shaved-headed Damon Bradshaw.. Early to mid '90s bikes looked the best in my opinion.

Early to mid 90s 2 strokes were the nicest bikes made. I remember when I was 6 years old in 1994 and was subscribed to dirt bike magazine. I used to look at those magazines all day and just day dream about owning those bikes. My favorite was the dirt bike buyers guide. Also the one with the guy on the front cover picking up a xr600r.

I had this same year bike - the yz80 version -(equipped with the purple anodized renthal bars). Absolutely love the color scheme on the 93’s. I regret selling that ‘93 yz80 every single day. Thanks Kaplan for taking me back to my childhood. Keep ‘em coming fellas!!

I'm a Yamalover Mr. Kaplan , that year was known as the Bradshaw Special. That bike right there is as sweet as you can get. I had a 78 YZ 250 that I rebuilt to Bob Hannah's factory specs , it was a literal RIPPER ! I wish I still had it.

@@Cody_4 i did the right side over a big double bone poped right threw the skin and bused ribs big endo 80footer my ribs were that bad i had to ly flat for 3 month eveytime i try to sit up my ribs would spasm it felt like i was having a heart attack, and going to the toilet when your gut is having spasm,s at the same time i was right handed try wiping with your left hand why all the spasm going on it,s a lesson ill never forget it happen in 94 im still getting over the injurys said ill never ride again back doing it 6 months later.never learn

Had a 94 yz250 was my first new bike and I loved it. I raced hare scrambles and rode it all weekend every weekend. I had thousands of hours on it and never a problem. I threw a piston in it a few times, a few wheel bearings and swing arm bearings but she never let me down once.

Have a wr500 now it's a 504 40 mm kx carb 16x44 gearing. Never let me down been riding it in so cal desert's 12 years. It's now retired got a wr 250f .great bike also

My exact old bike, bought new at 19 years old. Bought in Dec 1993. I was like Tarzan back then, or so I thought. Lol..I upgraded from a pristine 1982 Suzuki RM 125, to a 1993 Yamaha YZ 250, which was a huge jump in power and torque. Stock, out the crate, a badass bike already. I left it stock.

The Damonized YZ. It was at the time all new and a game changer then. Yamahas were all new all the way down to the yz80.

I had a 94' YZ80 that I wanted to lock up so I could rebuild it with a bigger bore and piston. I ran that thing with regular gas and no oil for 3 years and held it WOT on the road for miles. Bike never skipped a beat and started 1-2 kicks every time I got it out. Great Bikes!

Henry's YZF 400 4 stroke Yamaha literally smoke the competition in the 250 2 stroke class Supercross as after a few laps around the track Doug Henry's bikes we're putting out Billows of Blue Smoke so much that all the other Rider's couldn't see where they were going. It was said that Doug Henry was going through an engine per race as they were literally pulling out the first engine and replace them with an entirely new unit for each Moto. When you buy a 4-stroke dirt bike today racing motocross do not expect it to last very long. if not replaced at service intervals the cam chain will eventually snap in half wrapping up around the crankshaft and punch a hole right through the bottom of the cases...rebuilding such a mess can cost as much as $5000 bucks just for the parts if you do it yourself.....i spent $3500 just in parts for a normal clean up restore engine rebuild of an old 1984 XR500R ...

Wow man that thing hooks up. My friend had a 93 and bro had an old beat up 88 or 89 cr and that cr was so much faster in a straight line the guy with the yz was pissed. My 01 Cr 250 was stock except for bars, air filtsr etc and I could do a wheelie without the clutch in 5th gear at the midrange hit then ride it out till redline. Takes a lot of power to wheelie in 5th without using the clutch

we got a 2000 model yz 250 its had a frame up rebuild . engine rebuilt . frame powder coated new tyres new bearings all new plastics even put a title on it . so we can go on roads to different tracks

@ Tony Rappa ...that's what makes 2-strokes so good...they make power with very little displacement...more power per cc compared to a 4-stroke engine of the same size... I own a 2018 YZ250 2-stroke & she's a beast too... 51 h.p. stock...
