The Yamaha YZ250 has been around a long time and its a favorite for many racers and just regular riders.
2005 YZ250 Rebuild -
High lights--
Bike was bought as a rolling chassis but the motor was in pieces and we knew the cylinder was in need of serious repair so Millennium helped get the cylinder back to new.
Once the cases were split we discovered that one was cracked internally and had to be replaced.
We got TMR to modify the Cylinder and Head.
Replaced the bearings and seals on the machine with Pivot Works kits.
For the cables we went with All Balls and for the brakes they offer full rebuild kits and that combined with the
Cerakote from Faster USA our brakes with the Tusk lines look full factory.
We wanted updated suspension so we went with 2011 YZ450 forks found for a great deal on CL
The frame was able to be buffed off and cleaned up.
The swing arm was so beat up that it was easier to just have our local Metal Polishing company buff away the scratches. When the polish goes away we just Scotch Bright the aluminum.

Why do people like the YZ250? Because it's the swiss army knife of 2 strokes. It's good in motocross, offroad racing and single track. It comes with awesome suspension. The engine is claw hammer reliable. A couple mods and it's competitive against newer 2T. You can put a WR400/426 transmission in it and it's a single track weapon. The same engine has been around since '99! Lots of aftermarket support. OEM parts are plentiful and worlds cheaper than anything other than Honda, and team red hasn't made a 2T for over a decade. Those are my reasons...

And can be proven and verifiable.just shut the fuck uo and stop telling everyone howright you are without the respect or credentials to back it up..he needs to keep his ego at the door and ve a bit more humble and open minded.....and if u cant make sense of a tipuc by using talk to text then just friggin type it in and dont be so lazy....jesus Christ these people annoy the shit out of me and its not just this guy...theirs whole communities of these righteous , know it alls and they all either argue back and forth or kiss each others ass....neways long live 2 strikes

I think alot of us love and support the yz125 and yz250 because YAMAHA is still awesome enough to continue offering these amazing bikes. I think if Suzuki Kawasaki and Honda got back in the game the support would be spread out again in the 2 stroke market. Let's face it. If you ain't Joe pro with someone paying the bill to fix your 4 stroke, most of us look at the cost as a killer expensive cost. So to avoid these expensive rebuilds we stick to 2 strokes. Just price a cylinder head,4 valves, cam, timing chain, and piston for a four stroke and that explains everything. I've been there. Oil pump drive gear got taken out by a transmission gear tooth. 4700 bucks to rebuild my yz450f .

@TheRealKalEll
@TheRealKalEll 5 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Yamaha makes an affordable entry level race bike platform with the best bang for the buck and they keep the price low to open the market and sell more product and it works, for us and for them. It's well known that everyone mods their bikes so they make strong what needs to be safe, and cheaper of what needs general maintainance replacing. The very fist cars were water and battery powered. I see bikes evolving past this to the point that wheels might become secondary to hover or levitation technology like in Star Wars. Imagine THOSE races!!

Keep imagining it, cause it will never ever EVER happen!!! Manufacturers are and will be too lazy to design one with current/upcoming emission regulations. They would have to use what we see now, or different injection variations that are too complicated to give the 2 stroke any edge over modern 450s. I only own two strokes (3 of them) and they make generally make me happier for most applications, however, please tell me ANY two stroke models that will smoke ANY one of these 2020+ 4T big bores????? Anyone who can actually ride will not be beaten...I test drove the new KTM and Honda 450s this year and they BANG! It was almost like being on my 16' Hayabusa on dirt...especially that Honda!! They both rip! Last year I tested the 19 Honda CRF450RWE (Works Edition) and it was like a bat shooting straight outta hell!!! Would love to ride the 20...been oogling one at a nearby powersports shop that has sat there for going on 4 months...someone will be one happy owner is all I can say (Sorry, had a "squirrel moment"). Anywho, I would love the thought of a new big bore 2T hitting production, but it is the smallest chance in the universe that we would see such a thing unless all of us online put our money together to open a new American motorcycle manufacturing business - that'd be bout the only way. 🤔👌👍

It may be wrong to say the 2-stroke is harder to ride than a 4-stroke. I prefer to say a 2-stroke takes more skill to ride than a 4-stroke, which is why we ride them. :)

Would it be okay to run straight 100LL avgas, mixed with pre-mix oil? We've been buying VP110 and mixing 50/50 with 91 pump gas that contains ethenol. I work at the airport and it would be very easy for me to just buy 100LL isntead but I've heard it's bad for some reason.

The YZ 250 2 stroke is the AK-47 of dirt bikes I owned a heavily modified one for 5 years and it is in my opinion the best bike ever created by human hands, needless to say those were probably the best 5 years of my entire life. Low maintenance, reasonably prices spares and absolute monstrous power given the bikes low weight , vastly superior to a 250f & 350f imo. 450f’s are too expensive to fix if you are just a casual rider ( like most people are ) especially when you start putting on high performance aftermarket parts on them #5 hour engine.

Because they are reliable as Hell and make good power. Plus they are comparatively cheap. The X would really sell if they added e start and a WR trans. 2Ts are just awesome in general. While I have a soft spot for the 250 Yam, I have an '18 KTM 300 XC with V4 reeds, an S3 head and a Lectron on it. The bike is awesome beyond words with power everywhere, great handling, e-start and counterbalanced glassy smoothness in a two stroke. I am 57, been riding and occasionally racing dirt bikes for over 40 years, and it is my mid life crisis dirt bike, as one has to wonder how many years they have left at this point. The KTM 300 is an amazing machine. Not cheap, but fuck it, I am not getting any younger, and I have the money - LOL

4 strokes easier? mmmmmm... YZ250s are so flickable they save a lot of energy in a longer moto. Also, you can get the cylinder and head ported/polished -as well as some other goodies, to smooth out the power band. Then gear it to suit the power characteristics and bingo! Mine has so much power in the mids that it will pull 4th gear all the way around the track.. but, with the sweet sounds and light feel of a 2T baby!
