When was the last time you saw three riders on the same team literally just ride off and no one could chase them down? Oh right, never. Dr. Ferrari had these guys pushing a hematocrit of 60. This was like a video game race, this isn’t supposed to happen in real life. They just did a team time trial to the end. Lol.

EPO thats the reason. The three of them were all doing it and in lange amounts. After this race the whole cycling world changed and people were going to Spain to buy this stuff. Thats how Festina and TVM eventuallly got caught.

This is the race where EPO got its worldwide introduction for those who didnt know what it was. It was known in 1989 but here you had one team who used EPO as told by the teamdoctor and after that the cowboyyears in cycling began when cyclists would go to Spain to buy EPO in the open.

Tyler Hamilton talks about this race in his book.... “Three Italians literally just rode away from the race.” Lol The early days of EPO before the 50% hematocrit limit was truly the Wild West.
