A very rare beast indeed.

If the thing were badged with a Prancing Horse, it'd be north of 2 million, for what it is - absolutely. Lol. Oh, and they'd be calling it the "first real hypercar - or a precursor to the hypercar..." because it is. On my fantasy garage, for sure, as a keeper for that price.

I'm pretty sure it was 217 not 213 mph, those extra 4 mph are extremely important. edit: and a top speed of 212 mph (217 mph with unrestricted catalytic converters) -MotorTrend Article

Did they also raise the rev limiter for the test?

217.1 MPH

Nardo's a banked & circular circuit, so the two-speed runs of 212mph & 217mph should translate to about 217 & 223 respectively, on a flat straight. The XJ '220' lived up to its name.

"In the process of fighting a turn as needed when going faster than the neutral speed quite a bit of potential top speed is lost and hence a fast car will go faster in a straight line than what is possible on the Nardò Ring. Even at the neutral speed, in a banked turn a car runs a bit heavier than it would in a straight line, since the downforce created by the banking increases the rolling resistance on the tires."

@@Nuvolari0001 Yes, it would have lost about 5mph in "tyre scrub".
