These videos are fascinating, they take me back with memories to the glorious 90s, the years of my adolescence here in Italy. I liked this C-class a lot when new it cost a lot 30 years ago. I would be curious to know how all these old Mercedes ended up in Africa. Surely the first owner was European but how did they bring them to Congo? Who knows what maintenance they will do to these old ladies, little or nothing unfortunately, not even a change of oil and filters once a year. I don't even want to imagine the poor condition of the brakes, clutch, suspension, tires, interior, etc. What a shame! :-(

Better than being scrapped in EU
@IL-TRIMONE-PUGLIESE2 жыл бұрын
@@shimona500 A vehicle in poor condition, without any maintenance for years, is an extremely dangerous vehicle for the driver and other road users as well as extremely polluting for the environment. In Europe we pay close attention to all this. A vehicle, even if beautiful, cannot last forever and therefore the time comes when it must be scrapped for the sake of the environment and for the safety of all. Here in Europe there are people who have classic cars in their garages but they are maintained regularly and by enthusiasts they are in perfect condition. So it makes sense but a vehicle reduced to rusty old iron such as those circulating in Africa would not be able to circulate here in the EU because we have strict laws on vehicle safety and every 2 years it is mandatory to subject each vehicle to compulsory inspection.

It's a very dark and messed up story how these cars end up in Africa. The developed world(Western Europe, The United States, and East Asia(South Korea, China and Japan) send old used cars that have failed emissions testing and aren't road worthy anymore to the developing worlds. They end up in Mexico, Central America, South America, Africa, Eastern and Central Europe, parts of the Middle East, Asia, Australia. Even though it's good that less developed countries are now importing cars, it's also problematic to the environment as a whole, because these cars are also older, built before 2005, and require fossil fuels, emit higher fumes, heavy pollutants and aren't in the best condition or safe to drive. Many countries now are combating this actually to stop the import of second hand used cars that are unsafe to drive in the developed world.
@MoesKeckeEcke2 жыл бұрын
@@NFSMAN50 most W202 gas powered engines are euro2 and there is only a very slight difference between nothing or euro2+ katalytic converter if you send modern cars they will cut out all the emmissions stuff to safe on little fuel... It is a society problem more than "europe sends those old cars on purpose" heck even polish trucks driving in germany use simulator devices to cheat on emmissions so why even try to provide free modern cars?

wow thats nice but the C200 was the better engine, it took lees fuel to run as the car is heavy and was more powerfull and happy to carry the weight... The C220 Diesel from w202 is said to have a problematic diesel pump from lucas instead of bosch.. did it work okay for you?
