1994 Mercedes E320 Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter Change - Part 1

How to change the automatic transmission fluid and filter on a 1994 Mercedes E320 with the 722.3 transmission. This is part 1 of 2 videos.

Thanks for the excellent video. The dealer in St. Louis did not recommend changing the transmission fluid on a 1998 MB E320 with 125,000 miles, still claiming it was sealed for life. But I did it anyway. When I opened it up, I found the fluid to be black, almost the color of used motor oil. I was quite shocked at the poor overall quality of the fluid. I also drained the torque converter which removed another gallon of bad fluid. Removing the transmission pan only got rid of 2 quarts of fluid. While the pan was off, I also replaced the electrical connector which is famous for leaking fluid. Based on another You Tube video, it only took 5 minutes and was quite easy. I put in Valoline MaxLife synthetic fluid and bought all of the parts at Rock Auto and Ebay for a fraction of the cost of the dealer. All worked and fit perfectly. Based on my old fluid, I would highly recommend the fluid be changed every 100,000 miles at the max.

Thanks for the compliments. The torque converter is attached to the flywheel which is attached to the end of the crankshaft, which normally turns clockwise as viewed from the front of the car looking toward the rear of the car. I suppose that having the transmission in neutral will protect the gears in the tranny, but I am not sure about the gears in the engine. It is probably fine.

Great video! Can you tell, I turned the torque converter on the converter itself by hand with the transmission in neutral. Is it important in that situation which direction you're turning the converter to?.... Keep up the good work, you're videos are outstanding!!!
