In this video I am reviewing my 1994 Suzuki Katana 600 motorcycle, also known as Suzuki GSX600F in some other countries. This year’s model designation is GSX600FR, the “R” at the end referring to the year 1994. The last year of production for this first generation of Katana 600 was 1997. In 1998, Suzuki introduced a more modern looking second generation model with new fairing plastics, wider tires etc. However, the power plant stayed more or less the same.
By the way, you can get detailed information about all models and years of Suzuki motorcycles at this website (I am not affiliated with it, but use it as a reference all the time):
www.suzukicycle...
As a background, I purchased this motorcycle used in 2017 from a private seller close to Ney York City. I have not ridden it much, since it desperately needs new tires and drive chain. This is a static review, meaning that there is no footage of me riding the motorcycle. I am hoping to create and post a second part, a riding review, once I purchase and install new tires and chain.

Just bought the same bike with 11k for 600. Not as clean as this one but 4 dollar gas made this a good purchase.

Jesus you rode that thing all the way back from NY on THOSE tires?? You are a very ballsy man. The condition of those tires is straight up dangerous! Love the bike though. Test rode one once. If i have space i might get one later just for fun.

Looking back, it was not a good decision, but for what it is worth I rode slow all the way. :)

It took me quite a bit of elbow grease and polishing to get the shine out. The paint had been neglected by previous owners. I hope you are enjoying your red one.

Hey man. just curious if you ever had a noticeable increase in vibration at around 5000 rpm. Some people say it’s normal, some people give a list of things it could be. Just curious if it’s a common thing with these bikes. Just picked one up recently. Definitely not nearly as clean as yours. But I just wanna know if anyone else has the same “issue” before I drop a couple hundred to have a shop deal with it.

Hi Buddy. No, I did not feel any noticable increase in the normal engine vibration at 5000rpm on my Katana 600. However, my Katana 750 used to have a dip in power between 4000-6000 rpm, which I fixed using the mildest jet kit upgrade available for it. The 600 and 750 have practically the same engine. I wonder if your vibration issus may be related to lean carburation at that rpm.

fettah68 hey thanks for responding. I was thinking similar issues with carburetors. I just haven’t had the time to dive into it or take it to a shop. But if it’s something that others have not experienced then I will definitely figure out what could be causing it. Thanks again man

fettah68 so I took the carbs out and cleaned them. Didn’t fix the issues. Thought about a jet kit but wanted to see if they were just dirty first. However, I pushed the bike a little more than I normally do and I found out that once it gets passed 6000 rpm it smooths out. So I honestly don’t know what’s causing it 🤷🏼‍♂️ might get it looked at but shops cost a lot of money. Something I saw online was that bikes like that may find the right frequency of vibration that they’re just kind of naturally unbalanced. But only someone who diagnosis it can really tell me the true answer. Thanks again for your help man. I really appreciate it. It’s cool you actively respond to comments on a video you made a while back.

@@MrSwaggerPants999 My experience has been that most of these older Japanese motorcycles have an RPM range that the engine gets a bit buzzy. Unless the vibration on yours is excessive, it may be the resonant frequency of the engine at which it naturally vibrates most (like a tuning fork set to a specific frequency). Take care.

I heard people doing that and putting an on/off switch on the handlebar. During summer heat in Boston's traffic, this can sear one's legs.
