As a Ford fan this is very bitter sweet. Seton really did no wrong and was definitely worthy of the win but to see Perkins do this was possibly the best performance of any Bathurst event in history. Both amazing racers.

How I remember that one, was just weeks short of my 16th birthday. That has to be the best Bathurst 1000 I have seen on TV. For some reason, my mum was a fan of motor racing (cars) and she got me interested in watching it since I was a kid.

im a massive Ford fan and glenn seton should have one won it..but i take my hat off too larry perkins true determination to get from 29th to 1st he cemented his place among the all time greats then if he hadnt already done so..

yes- you are correct... Larry was running the "old" Holden V8 when all the other Holden runners were running the apparently superior Chevs! That made his win even more memorable.

Not really... In 1995, it was a 2-make race of highly similar 5.0L and in 2009 it was a race of 2-makes with again 5.0 V8 engines. Larry Perkins skill and a bit of luck with the Safety Car was the main contributor to him being able to challenge for the Podium but the pass on Seton was a moment in history. The Car failing like that with barely any laps remaining was amazing and painful to watch as well.

I might be wrong here but I think Larry was still using the "old" Holden 5 litre V8 in his car even when the other Holden teams were using chevs.Either that or his car was running on avgas!Whatever it was it had some serious POKE!!!!
