This happened to me and a buddy diagnosed it over the phone while I was stranded. I was able to help another buddy when the same thing happened to him. People gave him all sorts of common issue things to check in the thread he posted, and I actually got teased from some of the other guys in the group when I gave this suggestion. Clearly, these eventually go bad, so I'm glad you made this video! Yes. Those fools apologized. lol

Dude! Thank you for showing this! So easy to just have an issue and go to replace the part rather than fix the part causing the issue! Great reminder that trying a repair is 100% free and there is Rockauto for our fails or parts that cannot be repaired! Being honest, your channel is one of my favorites for reasons like this!!!

Thanks for the kind words. It’s always scary doing something new, but when there is little to lose, might as well take the chance and try it.

Hi from Portugal... i had this same problem on my 2nd gen CRX, did this procedure and it didn't solve...then i tried a 2nd time and did a little procedure on a plate of contacts on the white side (basically i hammered the contacts very carefully to make them closer to the contacts on the other side) and that did solve the issue. Hope this helps someone aswell...and nice work! 🙂

Great little video! Had to replace mine and didn’t ever think about actually fixing it without buying a new one.

They aren’t too expensive, so this is more of a penny pincher move.

Great video! I had this situation happened to me on my accord 2 years ago. I tried to solder and sand the contacts but no go. Luckily I had a spare ignition switch.

Just started having this issue on my 95 del sol, thanks for the instructions! (EDIT, I just finished fixing mine. FYI to anyone else doing this, I had trouble reaching the wiring plugs under the dash because of lots of extra wiring I have for various accessories so I just disconnected my battery and cleaned the connections while it was in the car, worked like a charm!)

I’d be surprised if there’s another channel out there, that has more time sanding by hand! 😂 Do your arms/hands stay cramped?? Keep it up, bud!

I cant say ive had this issue but A few months back on my EG coupe I had an issue were after i replaced the battery, somehow as if magic, the key cylinder just said "nope" could not get the key to turn or do anything, not sure what had happened, sometimes it woudl turn but most of the time it would just stay stuck, so I had to take the ignition portion out like you did and turn it that way.. A pretty ghetto way of starting a car.. Luckily got a new ignition assembly and fixed my issue

Hey I'm sitting with the same issue on my 5th Gen Prelude 97 model... Cleant up the contacts but still the same issue... My contact points looks like it's melted the copper away... If I sand it will it expose the copper Contacts again as you've done in this video?

This is great. Thanks for the tip. I do have other issue that may be related or not. As soon as I turn the key to on/start position it takes a couple of minutes for the fuel pump to come on (or hear a buzz).I've replaced the main relay and fuel pump and it still does it. Do you have a solution for that? Thanks.
@crxseth2 жыл бұрын
I would have guessed the main relay. Was the one you put in an old one?

I have a Civic sedan from 95, it looks the same as yours, but my problem is when i am on the 1 and 2 gear, the car hiccups and it feels weird, and i feel the rotations of the car going down and if i dont hit the gas the car shuts down, even if moving. No mechanic knows what that is. And i think i have a problem on a cilinder of my engine, it makes weirds noices sometimes, and its probably a cilinder! But the other problem i have no idea what it is and i think its kinda dangerous on road. Do you have any idea what might be?

I’m not sure. Hard to diagnose without driving and working through the troubleshooting process.

I have a 96 Honda City (Asia) its like an old 94 civic, when I turn the ignition the check engine light makes a sound and the check engine light flicker, the car wont start unless I turn the key again until the flicker and sound goes out then my car can be started but sometimes the car dies while driving, I will try to clean the contacts and save some money.
