It's a one way check valve, it holds vac. to the ball for A/C when under a load. Best way to check for leak in system is a smoke machine plugged into vac. system. You need to put it on a scanner and check values from & to the computer and possibly stored codes. And do a compression leak down test. From a Fellow C4 owner, good luck to it.

I think that is a check valve don't know what it does. Great video showing how to trouble shoot vac leaks.

What is the name or Part Number for that one part that you did say was causing a leak due to a crack? at 05:00
