Great video, thank you for explaining the locking washer in detail on the 2nd tie rod. Replaced the control arm w/ball joint, replacing the inner tie rods, sway bar end links and bushings, new cv axles w/ 10 yr warranty, installing Koni Strt shocks with Tein S. Tech springs on a 97 Maxima :D

Nice job. How do you bend those washer ears? Thanks
@MacGyversWorkshop5 жыл бұрын
Oops! I missed showing that part didn't I? You have to extend the rack out as far as it will go, then get behind it with a long tool that you can use to hammer the ears over the flats on the tie rod end. In retrospect, that would have been REALLY hard to film.

Smashing job mike :-D So they very slowly wear and the toe-in moves about, in extreame cases the tyres get scrubbed/worn faster than usual. :-( Should be happy for a loooooooooooooooong time now :-D

zx8401ztv Yes, this one had an obnoxious knocking sound when going over bumpy terrain. All good now though!

I changed the tie rod for this exact vehicle . The passenger side outer tie rod replacement did not have the little opening for the cotter pin too go thru.. instead it just had a nut with what looked like clear plastic inside ?? Is this sufficient ????

Where should we buy the tie rod replacement toots?

Nice vid! Did you regrease the teeth on the rack?

my new tie rods didn't come with the lock washers, can I use the old ones? if not where do I get new ones from?
@MacGyversWorkshop7 жыл бұрын
You are probably referring to the cotter pins that go through the stud. They do not recommend re-using them. I have and never had any trouble out of them, but you can get new ones at the auto parts store.
@phillyGz17 жыл бұрын
They did come with new cotter pins. But did not come with the metal part that goes between the rack a pinion and the inner tie rod. The metal washer with the tabs on them that keep the inner tie rod from coming loose.
@MacGyversWorkshop7 жыл бұрын
I would re use the Old one as long as the tabs are not broken off. You will be okay.

where can I find that tool & whats the name of it? I have the same model car except is a 1999 but everything should be the same.
@MacGyversWorkshop9 жыл бұрын
+Lucius Nelson III The tool I used in the video was a relatively inexpensive tie rod tool, purchased from Harbor Freight the link to the tool is; www.harborfreight.com/inner-tie-rod-removal-set-69619.html. It's not the best tool out there for the job, but it will get the job done for you in most cases. I work on a lot of different cars so it works for me :)

how much an hour do you charge and are you a macanic in your day job and work for somewon else off farm mac?
@MacGyversWorkshop9 жыл бұрын
obieezx11 My workshop is really just a place for me to be able to fix my own stuff that breaks. But a lot of my friends use me as their mechanic also because they don't trust any of the shops. They give me something for my time, but its always way less than what a real shop would charge, I'm just glad to be able to help them out. As for my day job, I work in the field of Information Technology. I am an assistant IT Manager.

An IT Manager is usually a manager over a group of computer people like help desk, or programmers. My group is a help desk that takes care of all the computer users in the company.
