So, what did you torque the bearing lock-nut to before having to tighten it again to line the little Phillips screws up? And was your final torque when the screw holes aligned?

I torqued it to 150 ft. Lb. at first and when the holes did not line up I set it to 151, then 152, 153, 154 and checked the screw holes and stopped when they were lined up at 154 ft. Lbs. The holes were lined up then.

Thank you for the info. I was thinking about starting with the torque at a lighter setting maybe around 130'ish but so far all the reading I've done when they mentioned what was their final torque when the holes lined up was around 155...so I think I'll shoot for the 150 as a starter if I ever get that far. I lost the spindle and hub when my wheel bearing failed and have yet to locate the parts locally in Washington where I live or Oregon next door for the oddball model year I own. I've also been searching the websites like car-parts.com and been striking out finding the right parts nationwide at auto wreckers/recyclers. Sounds like one of them have the right parts in BC who I talked to on the phone...but he can't ship across the borders. Arkansas, Denver and Pennsylvania might have the correct part but haven't received a confirmation from them yet. I own a 1996 Geo Tracker and the '96 year model is a nightmare for parts. The spindle changed in 1996 from a bushing type spindle in year models '89-95 to a bearing type spindle. And the hub is slightly different on the backside or inside. I bought the whole knuckle assembly from a wrecker only to discover the difference in the bushing spindle and learned quite a bit more after some research. Yesterday I thought I got real lucky and made a long drive in Washington state to pick up a spindle and hub off a 1996. First thing I checked when I got there was the spindle and it had a bushing in the backside...real frustrating disappointment. The owner's son said the manufacture date on the door was August 1995...so apparently I have to find a 1996 model that was manufactured in 1996? Who knows…maybe a 1997 spindle & hub manufactured in 1996 would be the same animal also? I haven’t been able to confirm that a ’97 or ’98 model year used the same spindle and hub as a 1996. The older cars…the expertise isn’t there and even the GM websites which are for the most part obsolete now I’ve come up with discrepancies cross referencing GM part numbers. So it’s been a real nightmare model year for finding those parts! Most of the auto parts/auto wreckers are willing to sell you parts from the ’89-95 Geo’s because the knuckles are the same but not aware of the spindle change. Most of them have done some researching on their computers while I was talking to them and have commented something along the lines of, “oh I see, they say the spindle is different…” I lost the brake caliper bracket also when the rotor ground away part of it and that has to come off a 4 door as they used a smaller caliper & bracket in the 2 door models. Just got a call back from Arkansas and he pulled the entire knuckle assembly for me off a 1996 Geo Tracker and I told him about my coastal trip yesterday and had him check the spindle. He did and it had the old style bushing in it as well. He wasn’t aware of the mfg date on the car door jam but is going to look and see what year it’s dated. Don’t ever buy a 1996 model year Tracker (and I imagine the Sidekick being the same?) GM/Chevrolet got involved with Suzuki back during that era and it seems some strange things took place around 1996 & 1997 model years. Thanks again for your help & time. If you have any experiences with this peculiar model years/spindle situation I’d love to hear what you learned about it. Dan

There's this guy who's got a really excellent website dealing with these Suzuki Sidekicks's/GEO Tracker's...ton's of great technical info on his site. I found it mind boggling you both came up with the same torque to line those screw holes up with. "SPEC. TORQUE: All but Samurai. These Crush Cone bearings (as OEM original) , require that you MUST HAVE a SPECIAL tool, to take it off and to put them back on, with 123-180 ft/lbs of constant torque load. There are no tricks to avoid this requirement. (butchery ?) A hammer and chisel is for lazy, or unskilled mechanics. Why let $50 stop you from doing the job right? www.ase.com/About-ASE.aspx My 96 , likes (first screw hole to align) @155 ft/lbs (this is not a spec, this is just my car, not yours) Any where, in this range and the locking plate screw holes (#17 below) align , then you are good."

Look up Randy Gibbs in Washington on face book. He specializes in parts for trackers/sidekicks. I have done business with him and was happy with the results.

Another good source of info is fixkick.com and the associated forum. It has been a big help to me. I am also on a couple of suzuki sidekick and tracker face book pages that have dozens of people doing all kinds of things to their vehicles who are very good sources of advice. I have links on my face book page, "suzuki sidekick restoration project".

Tengo problemas en el spindle usa un nedle bearing o un bushing
@nunapitchuk Жыл бұрын
That's a bummer. Did you get the bearing race pressed all the way in?
