1995 Toyota Paseo serpentine belt and alternator belt replacement

Thanks so much for this video! I drive a toyota sprinter for mail delivery and it also uses the 5efe engine. Today on the last delivery both belts snapped off! Had to leave it on the side of the road but with this video and two new belts I'm hoping to get it running tomorrow without a tow or mechanic bill.

Just a tip. On the ac belt tensioner bolt that pushes up on the power steering pump, get about 12” of extensions and get to it from the bottom. Much easier. Also it’s a 13mm.

Thanks for the video. That serpentine belt is hard and mine is 1992 and I wasn't sure if that weird bolt holding up the pump was it so glad I checked this out. It all looks the same.Thanks

My aunt has a 92. It wouldn't crank, but after a jump start it took her home fine. Then the next morning it wouldn't crank. So I got her a battery, because the alternator must be good if it took her home right? Then when she was on her way over the next morning it started overheating then died. I'm no mechanic, so I'm like "wft?". Then I decide to try and fix the overheating issue enough to charge the battery and get it over to the parts store to test the alternator. Figure out how to find the thermostat, which is on the lower hose connection if anyone wants to know, and while swapping that out I see that the engine is covered in grease from the valve cover gasket down, and while working on cleaning that off to find the oil leak (because why not?) I see this mass of something. I'm like, "oh no, did she run something over and it get stuck in something that's causing the issue?". Only to see that no, nothing is stuck in the belt, the gnarled mass IS THE BELT. So after a little research I see that one of the belts connects the alternator and water pump, so suddenly the onset of overheating and the battery not charging makes complete sense. Now here I am because I had no idea how to get off the outer belt, and just assumed I had to roll the alternator for the inner belt. I 100% feel like the dad from Malcolm in the Middle on the episode where he's up under the car fixing something after trying to change a light bulb...

Hey i got a 96 paseo and my belt screeches when i turn on the a/c so i think its a bit loose. Do i just need to tighten the bolt underneath the powered steering pump? Thankyou, great vid!

Daegen Pleake yea that should work but you have to be careful. I am not sure how tight is too tight but you can definitely go too tight. You may just wanna replace the belt. If it still squeals after replacement of the belt, you will have to do more troubleshooting.

Actually was the tensioner bolt, all i had to do was tighten it to the right tension and now the a/c blows ice cold no squeal

Rene thank you for your comment. The alternator has to be loosened to remove the belt. When installing the new belt I found it easier to put the belt on the components at the top of the engine then used a flat head screwdriver to help it seat into the pulley on the bottom of the engine.
