I'd say it's kind of the opposite. Our technology has made us more tightly connected. I've never met you and it's likely that we live very far apart, but we are able to speak. It used to be that I could realistically only speak to those around me, such as in my town. Even that was too large really. I would have only spoken to those in my schools, people who congregated at events I liked, or restaurants I liked. My exposure to people was largely limited to people who were like me. Even economically, since everyone in my neighborhood would have been able to afford the same type of house more or less. I think the root cause of so many of the issues today is that as a species we're not very accepting of others when they have different opinions. I'm supremely guilty of it. To be frank, I'm very liberal and I am absolutely put off by those with a conservative leaning. I end up interacting with those people on the internet and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. They probably don't like the experience on their end either. I think both of us go our separate ways feeling a bit less positive about the state of the world because it turns out that the world isn't what we thought it was. I was under the impression that many more people agreed with me and it gave me comfort. The other guy probably felt the same. We now see the world populated by people who "just have it wrong" or "are dragging this world down". Previously it would take generations of people before populations were completely merged. It allowed children of each generation to adjust and accommodate both views of the world and to interact with people who believed those things. Now, an internet connection brings those people and ideas into our lives instantly. We've never had our worldview challenged so quickly. So in short, if that is still possible, our technology has exposed us directly to the sum total of humanity and we aren't prepared for that because we all live in a world we created in our heads, based on what we could see out our windows.

Born in 88' here. I think you can tell how much more money they used to generate by movie rental stores/theaters before the digital streaming era. I mean look at the vast array of movie trailers. You don't see them near as frequently anymore.
@MidnightSonnet2 жыл бұрын
What I've noticed is that, back then, they didn't have to hype up a movie too much. They just had to show a couple of main actors and a few snipits. Back then, going to the movies was a major thing, so any excuse to see a movie was taken. Nowadays, studios have to create elaborate trailers and teasers in order to garner any attention from the masses. Kids today would much rather be on the internet playing a game at home than watching a new movie in theaters or otherwise. In the 90s, elaborate advertising for a movie was rare, but considered genius. Like how Godzilla 1998 was advertised. Even though it was a crappy movie, the advertising was next level.

People talk how nostalgia blinds us from the reality, but, I've nver lived in the 70s and 80s, but I rather live back then than nowadays, I lived in the 90s and I would also like to live again back then, but not because of nostalgia, but for the tranquility and simplicity of that time. Heck I'd even live in medieval times for the same reason.

For those of you born in 2000 that is called a payphone not everyone carried a personal cell phone with data plans or contacts you would normally have your contacts written down the piece of paper in your wallet or you had a very good memory this is when everything was so much more simpler and people didn't stare at their phones while walking across a busy Street

Damnit everyone let's invent time machine and go back to the 90s. What's crazy is the world is so different that back then it seemed the world changed so much from 1960s to 90s but yet look at the 90s to 2020s. 30 year gaps and see how much society changed. We have reached out pinnacle in evolution of our world and society. Unless we go fifth element route or perhaps demolition man type of near future then I say the old world died in the late 2000s. Internet took over.
