I remember that game and I am a orioles fan and I am from Baltimore. That was a bullshit call and it should have been fan interference and the hell with him being a kid.
@johnnydoe67173 жыл бұрын
It would have hit the top of the wall. Shouldn’t have been so nonchalant without. They got smoked in 5 games

Bullshit and he would have caught that ball.The Orioles was robbed and that kid should have been put of the game and the batter called out.

This ALCS didn't even make it to Game 6. Was that really the kid's fault?

I was at game 4 of this series and even though they won this game it shook the Orioles throughout.

Yet another thing we'll never see again: a daytime post-season game. The greed of baseball outweighs everything else now. Notable that Wells won this game - the Yankees would nab him and he'd be arguably the best pitcher on their 1998 championship team.
@jasonnichols61643 жыл бұрын
I still to this day maintain, if that f'ing Maier play hadn't happened, the O's woulda won Game 1 and after winning Game 2, gone home up 2-0. That play changed the momentum of this series.
@underwriter100 Жыл бұрын
The O’s got what every road team wants at minimum: a split of the first two games & still lost every home game after that. The Great teams don’t fold after game 1. Also anyone who thinks the 96 Yanks would fold after losing the first two home games, should check the 96’ World Series vs Atlanta 😂
@TL23549 ай бұрын
Nope. If the O’s win game 1 then Mariano isn’t used for 2 innings in Game 1 but he’s used in the 7th & 8th in Game 2 and the O’s don’t score 2 in the 7th and 1 in the 8th and they lose but why let facts get in the way of your retardation

Randy Myers in 1996 was MADDENING for Orioles fans to watch. I had forgotten he had to get pulled here. The following year though...lights out.
@stevee2312 жыл бұрын
The entire 96 pitching staff was frustrating but were a joy to watch in 97. Ray Miller made a difference over Pat Dobson. One of the only times Angelo's meddling paid off as he forced the switch. That 97 staff was borderline dominant with a rotation of Mussina, Key, Erickson and Kamienicki and the pen of Myers, Orosco, Benitez (besides the alcs), Rhodes and Mills all pitching lights out. 97 was fun....96 was frustrating

One of my earliest baseball memories was Maier taking the ball from Tarasco....unbelievable. I rewatched the clip again a few minutes ago and thought for a sec "he was just a kid" before seeing him sitting on somebody's shoulders celebrating a couple minutes later. And then it was "bleep that kid" lol.
@lupojohn213 жыл бұрын
@@baierc @Ryan cox You do know the Orioles nearly drafted him? If they had, having him on your side would have meant all was forgiven.
@hitmangfx71623 жыл бұрын
I don't hate the kid, but the umps that allowed it should have been fired. They looked super foolish when the replay showed how obvious the play was. Realistically, the Orioles could have gone home up 2-0 in the series.
@kanekoo66204 жыл бұрын
Wells was a bit of a Yankee killer...of course, he was signed by the Yanks in the offseason after this and had a up-and-down 1997 then a really good year with the 1998 Yanks. He got traded for Clemens but later came back to the Yanks a second time...
@hitmangfx71623 жыл бұрын
He slayed the Indians in the Division series as well. The Oriole's starting pitching was dreadfully inconsistent the whole year (and Mussina was lackluster in the postseason).

Orioles haven't been back to the 🌎 series since 1983, thanks to the 12 year old "hero" kid Maier, he cost Baltimore that. The Yankees security should've went and stay in the arena that the fans can't be allow there in game 1.

Yes and Jeffrey Maier also cost the O’s all 3 home games they lost to the Yanks too 🙄
