I just discovered this channel last year & it's now one of my favourites. You seem like a nice, well measured chap with just the right amount of dry wit (without it ever crossing to sarcasm) & your videos are always top notch. From the high production documentary videos (such as your recent Amiga 2 parter) to videos such as this, they're all a joy to watch. You seem to be about my age too so the nostalgia hits exactly the right spot to be relevant to me. Thanks for the excellent channel & I wish you continued growth & success for the future.

This brought back some great memories. I worked at Toshiba doing consumer/business user support starting about Sept. '95. Even though most machines had the "new" Windows 95 installed, we walked the customers through installing, moving, deleting files using DOS since it was easier to tell them what to type rather than where or how to move the mouse around. Thanks for sharing this.

The GREAT old days. BBSs were pretty good about scanning what they put up. I did get the DOOM2Deth or DOOM2Death virus from a ripped DOOM II game. Strangely enough McAfee sent me a free disk to clean it with..in the mail...the snail mail. Would have laughed if that app had said "Win 10 is a virus" and deleted it.

Ah, viruses. I remember having a disk with a touch typing training program. That had a virus on it. Really nasty one too! Started overwriting random files on the hard drive with complete garbage. Of course, it was already written on the disk that the virus was there, I just didn't recognise the warning. Getting rid of it was quite easy because the disk was ancient compared to the computer, so the antivirus program I installed had no trouble at all dealing with it... But it still caused a huge amount of damage. They don't tend to write viruses like that anymore nowadays... XD ... Ones that wreck all your stuff...

Sometimes, if memory serves, the '...cannot find...one of its components...' error stems from requiring a newer version of windows. it looks like you have windows 2.x there (earlier release than win 3.x anyway) i wouldnt be suprised at all if simply running those 'w' exe's provided a different result. if only ever so subtly.

@@Nostalgianerd PATH has evolved into an "Environment Variable" in Windows. Type "System" in your Start Menu, then click on the "Advanced System Settings" option on the right of that window, and you'll see a dialog with a big button at the bottom that says "Environment Variables...", click on it and you'll see all the DOS variables and more, including PATH.

what is the limit of basic given a good enough processor speed could you wright halo in basic?
@logansorenssen8 жыл бұрын
Yes, but you'd probably have to do a bunch of cruft in assembly, which would defeat a lot of the purpose of even trying. That said, if your compiler is good, BASIC is not necessarily any heavier than C. There are, of course, better tools for the job: Python comes to mind.
@TheWeepingCorpse8 жыл бұрын

@KuraIthys8 жыл бұрын
If your basic compiler is good enough, probably pretty much anything you could think of honestly. It might not be the most efficient thing to use for any given task, but you could certainly do it. Microsoft has had wrappers for using DirectX in Visual Basic for quite a while... Easier than writing a game in Java in the early days before there were any proper graphics libraries for it, anyway. XD (and yes, before anyone asks, there ARE compiled versions of Basic)
@pleasedontwatchthese95938 жыл бұрын
Basic is Turing complete, so you could theoretically make anything.

You would use bench sync change the program rate of running sync time so your computer would RUN as a older computer so if you were trying to run a out of date program and it just runs like a thunder cannon like a racing game. And the trees just fly by like wooden waves, you would change the sync time of your computer to drag it down before running the program.
