Just came across this video. Have a 95 explorer, same exact engine and everything else. My question is how would you know if the condenser needs to be replaced or not? My ac compressor is completely locked up even after replacing the clutch.
@thegrimreaper35925 жыл бұрын
My 93 is slinging oil out of the compressor seal behind the clutch would I need to replace it or just take it apart to change the seal
@APDTY11 жыл бұрын
You can replace the compressor clutch by itself, but you want to make sure that the compressor internals aren't seized as well, the outer clutch plate should spin freely still, it is connected directly to the compressor input shaft.
@wisfull11 Жыл бұрын
why didn't you do an oil balance for the new compresser like all the other youtube videos show?
@APDTY12 жыл бұрын
Hi, the reason you need to change the drier is because the system over time will absorb moisture. The drier can only absorb so much moisture and when you open the system when changing the compressor, all that additional humidity is introduced into the system. Moisture inside the system can be fatal to a new compressor and that is why you always need to replace the drier along with the compressor.

Does anyone know where we could find the ac filter for the 1996 explorer or does it not need one or have one ?
@RaysUserName11 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your videos! I have a 2000 Ford explorer. Very similar to this one. My ac runs abd gets extremely cold. It seems the compressor disengages when my rpms are under 2k. Usually when I'm sitting idle. I rev the engine and can hear the compressor start and I'm cool again. Any suggestions are appreciated. Also, in the event of a compressor failure, I will be offering this kit from you! Thanks

Can you tell me why it disengaged? I have the same problem but it happens why i dont even use the ac, it also happens when i just use the heater

Awesome video no background music to interrupt and great sound and great picture. I am wanting to just remove the compressor and bypass it for now with a bypass pulley and of course the smaller belt. Can I do that okay and without removing refrigerant form system?
@apdty663910 жыл бұрын
You can remove the compressor and we install a compressor bypass pulley that bolts right into place and allows the same belt to be used. You will need to evacuate the refrigerant out before removing the compressor. A shop is really the only place that can remove and store refrigerant properly. Here are links to the bypass pulleys on Amazon and make sure to pick the right year make model and engine size: 1996-2001 Ford Explorer or Mercury Mountaineer w/5.0L EngineEngine: www.amazon.com/APDTY-Conditioner-Bypass-Pulley-Compressor/dp/B00LXIJA18/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405721954&sr=8-1&keywords=APDTY+45293 1991-2003 Ford Explorer or Mercury Mountaineer w/4.0L Engine: www.amazon.com/APDTY-Conditioner-Bypass-Pulley-Compressor/dp/B00LXIJBF8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405722056&sr=8-1&keywords=APDTY+45295

@mikeaa000 as long as all the other pulleys are being driven by the belt, the AC compressor is not critical for the engine to run.
@APDTY11 жыл бұрын
What you would have to do is check for power and ground at the connector going to the AC compressor clutch. If you have power and ground when the system is on, but the compressor doesn't kick on, then the clutch is bad. If you aren't getting power and ground, then you have an issue somewhere else in the electrical.

@rclark23 Our Kit for this vehicle (The 1996 explorer) is $217.99, and that includes a NEW (not rebuilt) Compressor, as well as shipping to the continental US, Thanks!
@APDTY11 жыл бұрын
I am not sure what they are talking about, there are two things you have to do, the first is to evacuate the system (remove the pressurized refrigerant from the system). And then when the job is done, the system has to be vacuumed down prior to refilling with refrigerant. These two steps have to be done when repairing any part of the AC system which requires opening the lines. Perhaps they were misunderstanding the Vacuum vs Evacuate.

First video I found that showed the process of removing the a/c compressor. I couldn't figure how to get the manifold hose out. This looks exactly like mine and its a 2000 Explorer Sport.

do all of your a/c compressor kits come with the compressor pre-filled with oil? I'm going to order one for my F250 and one for my explorer. They are both 2006 limited and lariat. Awesome video btw. subscribed!

Most of the kits have compressor's with oil prefilled and I just checked those 2 kits and they do both come prefilled with oil

Can you do this without disconnecting the battery??
@APDTY6 жыл бұрын
So anytime you disconnect an electrical component you should disconnect the battery, otherwise you have power at each connections, if you don’t want to disconnect the battery, you would at least pull the fuse from the system you are working on.

I've got an 01 Explorer. It's blowing hot air. The compressor is supposed to click on and off, but it just stays running while the ac is turned on. It has plenty of freon. Do I need a new one?
@gabrielfrias39805 жыл бұрын
Yes I would get a new explorer.

@fijunky Everyone has their own technique, mine is to remove anything that is easily removed that could potentially get in my way while doing a repair. It only takes a couple seconds to reroute the belt.

The only local shop that can vacuum refrigerant told me that I had to replace the compressor before I evacuate the system. They're in the business, so they must know something I don't. Would taking off the compressor prior to evacuating the system be dangerous? Because that's what I understood from the video.
