Reverse has its own band that isn’t adjustable. This band is also used in low so if you put it in manual 1 and have slippage here then it probably that band or a leakage of that servo (should be in valve body)

Hi Anthony, the car had shown "Input/Shaft Speed Sensor No Signal" error and was recently fixed. The professional was not speaking English well and all I understood is that the input/shaft gear had to be adjusted to always send the signal to the "Input/Shaft Speed Sensor". I wonder could what you explained in the video be what he actually did to solve the problem. I would appreciate if you can point me in the right direction.
@TheVintageEngineer10 ай бұрын
This adjustment has nothing to do with input shaft speed sensor. That is a sensor internal to the transmission and really there is no adjustment for that.
@meganlacey615410 ай бұрын
@@TheVintageEngineer , if so I don't understand what the auto shop did to fix the problem. I was told that input and output sensors were OK, cables too, the input gear that spins and so generates the signal in the sensor had to be adjusted. The auto shop however did not need to open the transmission to fix it. And, to the question if solenoids were ok the answer was yes. If you have any suggestion what it could be please share it.
@meganlacey615410 ай бұрын
@@TheVintageEngineer , I did ask for more details about the procedure but either the shop does not want to share it, or they cannot explain what was done. I'm thankful for fixing the car but not explaining it well raises some questions. They have not opened the transmission, cables, connectors and sensors apparently were ok, TCM/PCM has not been replaced, i.e. the charge was only for the labor. Makes you think what work exactly was done in 8-10 hours with no parts replacement (there was no charge for parts on the bill). I wish I know in case the problem comes back, and it is something small that my family can fix.
@meganlacey615410 ай бұрын
@@TheVintageEngineer, one more question if you allow. While input speed sensor was replaced, my friend had to move the shift linkage cable a bit to get access to the input speed sensor. This may misadjusted the shift linkage cable. Switching b/n P, R, N, and D was a bit hard. Could this caused gear timing and selection issue, eventually resulting in the measured speed by the input shaft speed sensor being different from the speed coming from the engine? I read that if the two speeds are different, TCM/PCM/ECU may then would not be able to know to which gear to shift, and will report it as "Input Shaft Speed Sensor No Signal".

Hi,can you explain how the 5r55e has 5 gears because they only have 3 gears positions and with an overdrive makes 4 speed, but these are supposed to be a 5 speed. Thanks.
@TheVintageEngineer Жыл бұрын
Because the computer adds another gear between 1 and 2 by actuating the overdrive band on gear 1 to make a new gear. 2-4 on 4r is the same as 3-5 on a 5r. Number of gears has nothing to do with positions on a shifter.

Quick question: I just bought a 99 ranger real cheap with 2.5 and 4r44e and it doesn't wanna shift out of first till I either let off the gas or shift it manually into 2nd then as long as I don't give it too much gas it will shift through the rest of the gears. If I throttle up to much it'll shift back into 1st. The fluid is slightly over full but I don't see any other issues. Possibly a shift solenoid?

I lost reverse for the most part on my 4r44e. I can still feel it clunking into reverse when I move the column shifter into reverse. If I'm on flat ground, the vehicle will still roll backwards and will gradually pick up speed in reverse. I gain no acceleration by pushing on the gas pedal though. Do you have any idea as to why the vehicle would still roll backwards in reverse and kind of picks up speed on it's own. My fluid levels are good and all forward gears still work fine.
