Sounds like the connector contacts to the Computer are not making positive contact. You might try applying Dielectric Grease to the contacts. I have not had any issues with my ECM so far. But this Jeep has an ABS computer that has failed. But I have found a work around.

So I have a 1996 jeep grand cherokee and I've replaced on in a 2000 oldsmobile bravada but that had Security deleted on the new pcm... with that being said dose the jeep have to be programed or security anything or can I just get a pcm from junk yard and replace it

l also have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee, with just 86,000 miles. Question: Was this ECM engine computer failure catastrophic? I was wondering what will happen if it fails while driving on the freeway. Does the car just die or does it enter some sort of limp mode just to get you back home?

Mine died today over a long highway bridge going over lake Waco at 5:30 am. Mine works just the harness gets loose or needs to be cleaned. I have spent at least 650 the last two weeks replacing: Battery and terminals and starter, distributor the rotor and camshaft pickup all new plugs and wires the crankshaft sensor etc.. and it still didn’t crank… I was Lost and mad I replaced everything that mechanics said it would be. I finally pressed on the harness clips on the pcm and tried to crank it and booom it cranked so lesson learned always check the pcm and harness before you replace all that I stated in the comment. Now I just need to figure out how to clean the pins or harness clips because the pcm still works just when it decides to not crank I need to press them in and it will crank.. but it dying this morning on a long bridge that had no side lane and cars almost smacking me every time they passed me..

Helpful, but a little surprised no mention of needing to get it flashed. Everything I’ve read says it must be done…hmm

Do you have to get a junk yard computer programmed to your specific Jeep or is it just swap and drive
@1JawsJr5 жыл бұрын
It was my understanding that she was able to get the same year even the same trim level PCM as her Jeep. This meant, swap and drive.

How do you test it? I've found replacement pcm for $200 did you get a used one? My daughter's jeep runs perfectly fine when I'm driving it but when she drives it 30 miles to work it starts spitting and spurtering and shuts off then se says it has no power. I'm at a loss everything checks out.

Basically, your mechanic is a thief or con artist at the minimum. I want to know the name of the mechanic. I have the same thing happen to me at PB foreign and domestic. They wanted $800 to change the starter and the belt tensioner.

This was done quite some time ago, like over 2 years ago and the jeep is still running with the replacement PCM from the junkyard. It was taken out of the same year, exact model jeep that was in the Junk Yard.

I agree it has to be programmed to your vin and Im also confused it caused issues with the ac compressor but you never showed if it fixed the actual problem you just posted that it started what a bullshit video I would do a follow up vid showing it actually is still running but I highly doubt it
