Someone pointed out that the instrument is typically spelled with an accent on the u "laúd" which would make the pronunciation a two syllable "la-ood"

That's right. In an interesting way, this instrument shares its name (in Spanish) with the lute, although the Rennaissance or Baroque lutes are named in Spanish Laúd Renacentista or Barroco. However, this instrument is not (closely) related to the lute, but (as you point out in the video) instead to the bandurria; we could say that it's a tenor bandurria.

Nice sound and nice instrument, but the standard tunning for a laúd is two steps higher: G#(sometimes G), C#, F#, B, E, A.In my opinión the sound that is produced by you is nearer to a mandola o something like that, perhaps because you lower tunning.The song you play is great. What's the title? Or it's just an improvisation?Congrats and regards from Spain.

Wasn't this instrument played by Don Juan to charm the ladies?

I assume that's a laúd, pronounced lah'ood, which is the Spanish term for lute and probably related to it, somehow.

How nice! what songs have you played? can you get the scores?
@paladin-matthewwoods33503 жыл бұрын
The songs are mine. The first piece doesn't have a name yet. The second piece is oddly enough called "Mud Skippers" from an old CD recording of mine. Sorry but I never bothered to score the music out.

This tuning is the same as a Filipino Laud
@naldolaboy72984 жыл бұрын
that tuning is like the puertorican cuatro(laud son) that is 1 tone below... The regular tuning of Spanish tenor laud is higher pitch

A Gibson Mandobass (black instrument) and a Gelas Mandobass are in the background along with an early Gibson L-0 flattop guitar. There is separate video of the Gelas Mandobass. The Gelas Mandobass and Gibson L-0 are both for sale at Bernunzio Uptown Music.

Laud is pronounced "Lah-ood", stressing the "ood". As in, "ragout", where you stress the second syllable.

Let me know if you ever want to sell your laud!
@paladin-matthewwoods33505 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking. I do sell instruments from my videos from time to time on Reverb under the store name "Gweetarpicker" but I don't plan to sell the laud at least for now as I want to use it for recording. If I decide to sell it sometime later, I'll be sure to let you know.
