Recently replaced the head and timing chain assembly on my Delica (4M40). Watched your video well in advance and noted a few things for my job. Thanks for sharing!

Did the rear injectors on my Vito last week, was thinking about you as I was working half blind between the head and the windscreen. Looks like you are doing all right.

Yeah there is no room in my engine bay for you're head but I'm always suprised how well I can see with my fingers. I brought a pop tester in the end as it was cheaper than buying the gauge and fittings to make one. I bet it's cold up you're way, it's been bad enough down here doing my car let alone where you are

The cylinder head bolts need a couple final torque using a torque angle gauge. Also no need to stick that crush seal on the injector itself, just drop it carefully inside the injector hole while the head is off. Last thing you want is crap around the injectors nozzle. Good job tho.
@smithbuilt
@smithbuilt Жыл бұрын
What's a torque angle gauge? I used a torque bar to tighten them if that's basically the same thing. I stuck them on as I couldnt see into the port that well. Cheers btw ,I'm still impressed it started and didnt just go pop lol
@fasm313
@fasm313 Жыл бұрын
@@smithbuilt a torque angle gauge give a more accurate final torque so you wont have to torque it again later on. No its not the same. You have to tighten with a torque wrench in sequence and then use the angle torque gauge to add 45 degree same torquing sequence then another 45degree 9total is extra 90degree ) same torquing sequence then youre good to go. The way you did itll need to be retorqued later on and could lead to failure.

is there anything else you recommend checking or proactively replacing at the same time you are doing the timing chain? while it is convenient? Awesome series of videos - removal, cleaning and reinstalling.
@smithbuilt
@smithbuilt 3 ай бұрын
Yeah, replacing the timing chain would be a good idea, but, I my opinion, it's best to remove the front cover to do so. I was told you can split the old chain and join it to the new one and pull it through but, I feel there is far to much opportunity for something to go wrong. So I'd remove the bumper, grill, radiators ect then take the timing cover off. You can leave the engine in place and not move the timing and not risk any unforseen issues you might cause you're self. Thanks for watching BTW

No, I just put it on. The manual I use made no mention of it being needed plus there was no evidence of it being used before. I imagine you can use it if it makes you feel better but it's been fine
