I own one , I was nervous buying one being a Honda nut , but after 20 years of owning it ? ...Its a fucking solid car , much better than the Interweb has painted it. IMO: a lot of 3000GT owners are dreamers on a budget and neglect ANY car they own, these cars can be bought for a song and seem to attract these type.. treat them right and they are as good as any R32-34 , much better than a RX-7 and only a tick behind the Supra mk4.

good video legendary 3000GT(GTO) PUMA Monster...

Fun fact: The Puma GTO has been weight reduced to 1460kg (from stock weight of 1710kg) and is running a slightly higher boost level too for competing in the Super Taikyu Race back in the 90s
@dct124 Жыл бұрын
Nope. The Puma GTO is actually the 3000 GTO MR which started out at 1650kg (3,638 lb). It's likely they removed 638 to 838 lb of weight before adding in 200 to 300 lb of additional race equipment. I listed all that I could see removed and what I think they removed based on pictures, and video. The 420 lb reduction came from removing the 80 lb driver's seat, 50 lb passenger seat, spare tire, tools (jack/wrenches), and trays. All carpet, and head liner. All interior panels rear of the driver cabin. Both air bags gone. The center console, and entire lower dashboard removed. Looks like the inside of the dash was gutted and all AC pipes removed, cabin air filter. A big reduction comes from sand blasting the sound deadening and removing all interior and exterior paint and only using primer. They just wrapped the car. Pretty sure that's a modified transmission and shifter. Fuse boxes, rear wiper fluid, fluid lines. Likely removed the front, rear and both door panel crash bars in favor of a full racing roll cage. Hatchback inner panel, Hood foil padding. Hood struts, hatchback struts, hood latch, hatch latch, automatic door locks, automatic windows, window regulators, sun visors. Probably 10 lb to 20 lbs of useless screws (seriously). Weather trim. Likely sand blasted the bottom too. Seatbelts gone. Rear seat, backrest, rear privacy shade weights at least 7 lb, car cover, wooden removable rear floor board. Airbox gone. Splash shields. It's likely they removed the original glass windows to get the most weight reduction, and installed plexiglass, or some lighter glass. Lightweight wheels. Aftermarket steering wheel. Removed the radio, CD changer, speakers, security system, AC, AC controller, air vents, cruise control, ABS. All emissions hoses, charcoal canister, grab handles and hanger hooks, O2 sensors, and computers. Rear wiper, radio antenna. Sunroof, can't recall if the MR even had one. Racing suspension installed, racing brakes, stock exhaust replaced. Pretty sure they removed that brick of a battery that weighed over 50 lbs with a smaller 10 lb, 16 lb battery. Fog lights removed, that's 15 lb each or was that the Gen 1 🤔. Bunch of useless wiring, interior lights. Sure they swapped to a custom harness and ECU. Removed the TCU. Don't think it came with the ECS. I'm not sure if they kept the AWS, they probably did. Active aero was already removed stock. Removed active exhaust.
@dct124 Жыл бұрын
I also think they may have removed the stock fuel tank for a custom fuel cell. That's at least what another first gen race car did.

Color Code #1b9671 (best guest) Engine completely stock + air box. Times aren't far off stock. 324ps stock to 330ps racing, +5hp Likely running stock fuel pump which max out at 360hp, or 364ps. Stock turbos are good for 400AWHP. Suspension Megan Racing adjustable coilovers, I think. Brakes AP racing calipers, pads, and slotted rotors. Steel braided lines, racing brake fluid. Single side dual straight pipe exhaust. Sound like he said, Optima. So MagnaFlow Optima. 🤔 Super light weight racing seat. Stock guage delete. Replaced w/generic digital rally racing guage. Active Aero Front air dam removed (disabled). Rear wing active (manual bypass controller). Custom front splitter installed. Stock pedal delete. Aftermarket racing pedal box, and dead pedal. Custom shifter, and e-brake. MOMO racing steering wheel. Fire extinguisher installed. Data logger. In car cameras. Removed all engine covers, and wire tie downs. Like the front spark plug cover, injector cover. Added front strut brace. But no rear strut brace, due to full racing cage. AWS Looks like AWS was removed. -40 lbs, RWD feel. (45/55 split) Looks like weight reduction done to rear hatch area near roof line. Racing harness installed Car was fully blasted. Primer, and stage one Puma paint. Color Code: 1b9671 Overheating As far as I know from other episodes, the GT-R, and GTO suffered from overheating. The cars needed better, bigger oil coolers, radiators.

@@dct124 There is no TCU in it because its a manual. Also its obvious it was gutted, so were the others, thing is that 3kGT is mostly heavy due to its luxury items and not the car itself. FWD version of the car is much lighter than turbo Supra and weights the same as non-turbo version for one and that is with most the basics in tact. AWD system does add alot, but could be lightened(plus Supra cant even have AWD and with such it would be heavier than 3000KGT as only way would be one of Toyotas automatic 4WD transmissions). Once you start going for light aluminium or carbon fibre replacements for bumpers, fenders, hood and alike it could go even lower. I think thats where they could get the extra savings, unless its still original bodywork in these parts.

A car with advanced built-in technology that was too costly and added more to the awful weight disadvantage. While it had many unique qualities to it, it was a car that saw very little improvement by subsequent generations. The Lan Evo succeeded where the 3S platform couldn't as an AWD car, so it was sensible to hit the brakes on producing another after 10 years. The 3S chassis still existed as the 4 door Diamante until 2005. In reality the Eclipse and Lan Evo spiritually succeeded the 3S platform, even with trying to survive in a market that demands more economical vehicles or SUVs.

They are heavy car, and engine not reliable with not many aftermarket products
@jordanprice92855 жыл бұрын
@@exoticspeedefy7916 Naw, a MK3 Supra is heavy, this car is big yes, but it's when you factor in all the stuff that made it that big like the ECS, Electronically controlled Exhaust system, Active Aero, and AWD which added a considerable amount.. Besides, there was an even lighter MR version that took off about 300-400 pounds in Japan.. Also, the only reason it was unreliable is also probably because of the previous owner not taking care of it like they should've.. I know plenty of people whom have owned them for years and haven't had too many problems at all because they did what they had to
@exoticspeedefy79165 жыл бұрын
@@jordanprice9285 Not reliable as in the engine would fail at higher hp, the block was not that good at pushing high numbers.. the drive train was also weak and gearbox and had to be re worked often. It was expensive to make this car perform however. I owned one for 5 years.. now own a 2jz mkiv
@CutACrow4 жыл бұрын
@@exoticspeedefy7916 actually you're not right. If you would do a simple search on ray pampena its well known within the actual 3/S community that the 6G72TT 2 bolt motors are well capable of 500awhp with supporting mods. As for the 4 bolt variant (found in 2nd gen onwards) its 100% able to reach 700~AWHP with again supporting mods. Not counting forged internals and whatnot. Critical fail point is the transfer assembly which is easily fixed with bracing and/or a billet assembly. These cars are plauged with tons of misinformation so please dont spread false claims with no data to back it up.
@Soviet_Kitty4 жыл бұрын
CMDR Exoticspeedefy No offense but if you owned one for five years and found the reliability to be as you described, then you’ve failed in terms of maintaining and building the car. Stock long block should be good for ~600WHP and the trans should last fine into the 1200’s. Oiling can be an issue if your pan is damaged, but thankfully they aren’t prone to anything catastrophic like the MK4 2J’s crank walk issues.
