And this whole time, I thought NASCAR 2005 chase for the Cup was pulling stuff out of its ass when you could race modifieds at the Glen.

Me too. I always thought EA were sending strong hints to Nascar to race mods on road courses.

And the games never used the caution or pit stops for the modifieds...

I remember going to Watkins in like 2008 and they had them

I love this channel so much. Sometimes I have issues with anxiety and one of the best ways to help soothe me out of a panic attack is turning on an old VHS race from when I was a kid.

No matter where they race, the modifieds are always better than NASCAR's top championships.

The best show, any race fan could ever see, is the modifieds running up at New Hampshire Speedway! A mile track, wheel to wheel racing! And open wheeled racing at that!

The last race my father and I went to together before he passed away. I'll never forget him making fun of me the whole day because I was hung over lol.

These cars, and this series doesn't get hardly any exposure on tv! These cars started all this racing craze, way back in the 40's and with the actual bootleggers running the cars they used to transport they're illegal booze. They've come a long way from then. Wish Nascar would give the modifieds they're due.

I agree. Every time Ive gone to a modified race, and when they play our National Anthem, I get goose bumps! And I always think about how great Americans have it, to be living in a free Nation, with some of the best sports entertainment in the world! It doesn't get any better than this stuff!

This is so awesome to see! I spent a long time trying to find footage of 'em at Limerock, but never knew that the old Watkins Glen races were televised! Thank you for posting this!

Thank you so much for this Dave! I have forever wanted to see the modified races from the Glen ever since I found out they raced there.

I went to several of these races but wasn't here that year. Good times.

In case nobody noticed, Bruce D'Alessandro, who got out and handed over to Buddy Norton, was driving a Merkur-branded car. The official results call it a Mercury, but the roofline looks like a Merkur XR4ti, a car that was off the market about 6 years before this race took place. I wonder what the story is behind that.

What was the time stamp for that?
@quickford4 жыл бұрын
@@Konformation07 Starting at about 13:43 the car is shown in the pits, at 14:01 the camera switches to the other side and you can see the roofline better, as well as what looks like "MERKUR" across the very front of the roof.

@@quickford Interesting... good catch! It does indeed look to be an XR4Ti roof. I don't think they had to be in "current production" per class rules, however. Most of the modifieds from this era used roofs from the 82-87 Cavalier hatchback. My father's boss onwed one through the 80's - 90's, and I remember their's and like 98% of the others being a cavalier (well, the roof, anyway...lol). Still were a couple of Pinto and Gremlin roofed cars around at the time, too. I remember Gil Hearne running a Pinto for a LONG time.

Honestly idk why they don’t race modifieds on road courses the cars a much better suited for the style of track then modern stock cars.

I think it was a good idea. I grew up on modified racing being an upstate NY guy and two of my favorite racing trips was the two times I went to see the mods at the Glen.
