Your filming and 'walk through' this job is excellent Very clear video Easy to see, follow and understand I've just rebuilt my power steering pump, put it all back together and , bam, the high pressure hose has a split Oh well The only difference to your tools: On the pressure port union, I used a 24mm socket, 1/2" drive universal/swivel joint and a long extension with a strong/crack bar. A ratchet once loose, or fingers I think the torque is 38' foot/pounds or, until it doesn't leak anymore An excellent, well documented video Thank you for your time and effo0rt

Good vid. Did my 98 sienna which is very similar. There are 2, 10mm nuts that mount the hose near the firewall. Access one from the top, the other from the bottom as indicated in this video. There is also a wire pigtail mounted to the hose bracket that has to be cut off to remove hose bracket (no need to disconnect) I reattached it with a zip tie afterwards.

This video was invaluable in helping my son and me replace the same three power steering hoses on our 2000 Camry LE V6. We’re impressed FixItPhillip did it by himself. Here are some notes concerning our experience: --When attempting to take the bracket off the back of the intake as done starting at 1:48, we were unable to get our smallest ratchet/socket (1.5” thickness) onto the 10mm nut. A bolt was sticking out of the firewall that was right in the way (clearly seen at 10:35 though the bolt was directly across from the nut in our case). Instead we used a 10mm ratcheting wrench, standing on the passenger side while the wrench came in from the driver side. --We used 18” of extension with a magnetic 10mm socket to remove/replace the nut on the second bracket as shown at 2:33. We come in from the top driver side. It took three of us to put the nut back on…one on the passenger side lining up the bracket, one on the driver side with the ratchet/extension/socket and another aiming the flashlight. FitItPhillip put the nut back on from below (starting at 9:18), something we didn’t think we had the leverage to do as the car was only on jack stands. --The original two copper washers for the banjo bolt were actually one unit (U-shaped). This can be seen starting at 4:47 where the U-shaped unit is attached to the ‘ring’ part of the hose. Not sure why the washers that came with the new hose weren’t designed this way. --The two wrenches used starting at 5:40 are 17mm and 24mm (though FixItPhillip used an adjustable wrench for the 24mm). --At 11:43, FixItPhillip used a Fuel Line hose for the smaller reservoir hose. As @ferndog1461 noted, this is probably not the best. We used a 3/8” I.D. Power Steering Fluid rated hose (see below for specifics). I believe the original is 10mm (slightly larger), however the 3/8” went on just fine. The parts we used: 1) Carquest Premium Pressure Hose Assembly 36554 from Advance Auto Parts (* see addition information below). 2) Import Direct Power Steering Reservoir Hose 13404452 from O’Reilly. 3) Edelmann Power Steering Return Hose 71206 from amazon (cut to about 6”). * The Carquest Hose did not come with the two brackets that attach the hose to the back of the intake/engine. We did reuse those brackets from the old hose, but the top bracket required a bit of work to get if off the old hose and on to the new one. In hindsight, we probably would have preferred a hose that comes with the brackets, such as the Import Direct Power Steering Pressure Line Hose Assembly 13401162 from O’Reilly. We kind of messed up the tension clamp on the top of the Reservoir Hose and so replaced it with an adjustable hose clamp. Otherwise, we reused all of the other tension clamps. After having installed all the new hoses and refilled the reservoir, we did notice when the engine was on and turning the wheels back and forth, a very slow leak at the point where the banjo bolt connects to the power steering pump. There is a new copper washer and the bolt is as tight as we can get it, so we don’t know what we might do to fix it. We are wishful thinking it will seal itself.

have you tried a 24mm socket, 1/2" uni joint/swivel, + long extension you can get more tension/torque on the union joint this way I just rebuilt my power steering pump, only to discover the banjo bolt hose now has a leak Will be replacing this line/hose tomorrow. Any leaks are a problem They won't 'just seal' with time, you need to redo it, unfortunately

The hard line thats integrated to the rubber line tends to fail wheres its clamped together

Nice video, thanks. I am having similar leak on my 98 es300 and I was thinking it was oil leak because it was yellowish color. Later found out that dexron fluid from factory does not have red dye and so looks like engine oil.

Recently replaced mine only the high pressure hose and it was easy, but the part that connects with the electric connector didnt want to come off and I had to take the power steering off to get a bigger tool to fit with more leverage. Installing the pump back, there is a bolt that the top bracket slides into and what I remember is saying every cuss word in the English language trying to get the bolt to thread back into the bracket for a straight hour and finally got it in. Hope you don't have this issue if any one of you try replacing it. I do recommend changing everything else like the low pressure lines just so you don't have to fix it again in another 20 years👍

I went to the junk yard found the only pressure hoose, cut it after the rubber thinking I could just bug onto the other one. Big mistake. I learned a lesson though 😀😀

On my 2003 Camry LE, I couldn't get just the two hoses from the Stealership. They stated I had to order the whole assembly. They wanted $120 dollars + tax. That's the ~9" hose, aluminum piping, and another hose. The wear item are the 9" hoses that leak after a decade of service. With my 5th Generation Camry LE, 2.4L , 2AZ-FE, that hose leaving the reservoir is an odd ball size ( 10mm ID ) for the inner diameter for a power steering hose. I can't find it in any of my auto parts store except Autozone, online. "Duralast Power Steering Return Hose 80565 ". Don't use a fuel line. Power steering fluid rated hoses only. Peace. I subscribed to this channel. The bruises on his hand are all I have to see. Peace.

I have a 1999 Toyota Solara 3.0 V6 1mzfe that has a power steering leak sprinkler all over the passenger side of the car underneath the hood and inside the fender. This video was quite helpful as everything looks very similar to my Solara. QUESTION: The hoses on the car in this video are certainly trashed. The hoses on my car don't visibly look too bad although I think they might be seeping through the hose's wall. How do you know the steering pump is not to blame instead of a hose? I'm going to run some dye in the power steering system as soon as I can finish this rear valve cover gasket and measuring valve lash job to get the engine running.

This is relatively the same as my 07 camry. Been under the car for 2 hours, can't get the fitting off that connects to the piston on the rack. I can get the other end to the pump just fine though. Gave up and hurt my back and left knee, lol. Am I able to remove the hard line without replacing the oring?

If the rubber isn't leaking , it's probably leaking from the compression connection , I used two part mixing liquid steel on no more leaks , if the hose is leaking , you can just replace the hose with new clamps

Where does the upper rubber hose connecting to the metal with 2 clips goes in your video. My metal portion goes forward then drops down and goes towards the firewall. I've 2000 Camry Solara V6 but Convertible...the leak is where the upper rubber hose meets the metal tube going forward. If it is a small leak only is it just the rubber tube that needs replaced.

In a pinch, you can use a repurpose a soap pump to empty the reservoir. Slow, but it works.

Do you what part numbers you used. Rock Auto is showing about 20 different high pressure hoses of varying length (43.25" vs 47.5") , with and without switch port. I am confused on which one to get. I have the same car/engine as you.

Excellent video. Have a question: It appears when the fluid leaked out as you took it apart it was typical clear PS fluid. You filled it with Dextron (which is the correct fluid) -- a red colored fluid, without flashing the system. Wouldn't mixing the two fluids cause issues?

I've personally never heard or had an issue with having a little generic clear ps fluid still left in the system and refilling it back with the proper dextron. If there is still a lot of the generic still in there, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to get out as much as possible. Then fill with dextron, run it for a bit, suck fluid out of reservoir, and refill with dextron, and do that process a few times.

GREAT VIDEO THANK YOU. I wonder if you can comment on this concern. My car was parked idle for a few weeks not being driven, but then I discovered a substantial leak on the drivers side from on one of the two lines feeding the rack. Based on the stain under the car and the empty reservoir I assume the system probably has lost most or all the ATF fluid in the system. But since the car was sitting idle fora few weeks and before I am getting around to replace the leaking lines, I decided to run the engine so as to keep my battery charged up. Now in retrospect, I wonder whether I may have accidentally damaged the power steering pump by running the engine to charge the battery, but the car was always parked. I would appreciate your opinion on that concern, for I would hate to put in the work replacing the lines feeding the rack only to find out that I had damaged the pump accidentally by running the system mostly empty.. Thank you. Ron

The low pressure line , that's just heater hose with 2 clamps right?

Yes you can use just a straight hose for the low pressure hose from the power steering pump to the reservoir. With just 2 regular hose clamps. Try to get a actual power steering grade hose or a transmission cooler line hose will hold up also. Coolant hose will work but probably wont hold up as long in the long run.

@@FixItPhillip , what about the sensor . Auto zone didn't have the original sensor , or any power steering sensor or banjo bolt. They just said they can match the numbers or something. I've seen sensors online but not with the holes in it like the original banjo bolt on the Toyota Camry 2001

Heres a easy way to find part numbers that i do. Go to rockauto.com. Put your year, make, model, engine size... then look up the type of part your looking for. It'll show you what brands make that part and the part numbers and pictures of the parts. Then u can use that part number when looking on amazon or calling a parts store or buying it there on rock auto ect....

This camry had 2 different design options for the power steering pressure hose. So u gotta match up which one is the right shape/design. The return hoses you can use straight hose that you can cut to fit. Get actual power steering grade hose or transmission cooler grade hose. And check your power steering reservoir cap. Most of these call for ATF fluid instead of power steering fluid.

Your video is crystal clear, HD quality. I have a 2002 Camry with a leak at the high pressure L hose near the bottom of the radiator on the passenger side. Your video didn't fix that, correct? Also, it would help if you started out from a wider view to show perspective of where you are in the engine.

I replaced the pressure line from the pump to the rack. Also the 2 low pressure lines from the reservoir, and yes on the passenger side. There is also some low pressure lines on the passenger side that are lower near the frame and radiator that go from metal to rubber lines. Which is also part of the low pressure side, which I didn't replace on this video or vehicle. Thanks for watching and good luck with your vehicle

Toyotas actually use transmission fluid for power steering, that did NOT look like transmission fluid at all LMAO. Could be why there is so many problems with power steering on Toyotas. People putting the wrong fluid in their PS system lol.
