I have a 3/8" and 1/2" Astro Pneumatic impact socket sets i got off Amazon. they have worked very well on all my E39 jobs.

I did front sport struts on my 2001 530i a few weeks ago with OEM Sachs, but even with 4 spring compressors (a pair I own from Schwaben and a pair I rented from Autozone) I could not crush the spring enough to reassemble. Had to take them to a shop, and even they said it was difficult on their full sized strut compressor. It's just the odd shape of the E39 front springs, as I've done plenty of other BMW struts without any problem with just two strut compressors.

Need to keep a 4-way in the trunk. I got one in the e38. Haven't used it yet, but just in case. I need to do all four shocks on mine. It clunks and squeaks the whole time I drive and travel over the uneven roads.

bottom end of spring most definitely does line up with the dip in the base plate. Goes about 180 deg from it actually.

Just bought new OEM SACHS shocks for the E39. They also balloon out as you say at 7:40. So I think your Chinese maxabsorbers are the issue.

Hi Nathan!.I have a question .I have done the same repaire to my 540i .I replace the front ones with the same brand from the factory (sachs) but now the front car is a inch higher .I dont like how it looks and dont know what i did wronk. Any ideeas

Spring compressors worked perfect, prob 6 months and they will be leaking

Nathan's DIY Garage Yes for one Time use its fine.but please dont use them forever,we Need you for a long time to enjoy your videos;) i dont want you to get killed by a cheap spring compressor. But you know best what u r doing.

Please please I hope you answer my question. I bought the same strut but for some reason my car is sitting a little high. Mine 03 530i . What part # did u get and how far the strut go through the pinch bolt. Am thinking thats probably my problem

EKK yea same as mine, the driver side was not down far enough in the spindle

@@MJCARS push it all the down. The strut should have a stopper welded on its body

Hello. I have a 2004 BMW X3 with a heater valve that is always powered closed even when the car is off. Any solutions?

Inside the heater valve the rubber plunger gets wadded up and the car keeps power to it trying to close it, you will have to replace the valve

It opens and closes no problem. However it is always powered even after the car is off and gets so hot that I have replaced two of them already. Could it be a coding problem?

Happens all the time to E39s, but bilstein in the way you should've went

Taking the thrust arm out not a bad way of going.. however why did you not bother taking the brake caliper off? It takes about 5 minutes max. In your video when the strut is out we can clearly see the whole assembly straining and pulling the brake flexi hose. And the abs sensor wire also..

Similar job but I think yours has 2 bolts on the bottom of the strut if I remember right

I always have admired BMW 5 and 7 series cars but never owned one because of the fear of having to do my own repairs because of never working on one and the thought of trouble shooting electrical,spark,and fuel issues and so forth have always steered me away...

Been using these for more than 7 years, only had a issue once it got the "socket destroyer " impact lol
