1997-98 Boston Garden Demolition Piece

FSNY did a piece about the, at that time, in progess demolition of Boston Garden in between periods of a game between the New Jersey Devils and Boston Bruins. Piece includes some footage of the demolition, some fan reaction and Stan Fischler's thoughts

The Devils guy with the best comment! Totally with that guy - so sad that the oldest stadium in the NHL is now MSG and that's been renovated how many times? So what's next? 1987 JLA? 1987 Northlands Coliseum? They'll be gone soon too :(

I hate to see this great building demolished. I agree that it should have been turned into museum *or* anything else besides tearing it down! Just think of how many *great* games occurred here - both basketball and hockey. A building definitely deserving of have been put on a historical registry! "Razed" is such an interesting word for something being torn down. The first time I read the word was reading about back during the civil war, when an army burned a town/city down on the opposing side, they said it was "razed."

Wow the sport world just disrespects and doesn't care for history. The Fleet Center can never claime that Bobby Orr played there. Can never claim that Larry Bird, Bob Cousy, or Bill Russell played there. I guess soon you will say good bye to Fenway Park!

The Demolition of The Boston Garden began in April 1998. I went there with my video camera when it was 1/3 torn down.

Fenway wont go, too much money has been put into renovations lately, its up to par with modern stadiums, they have no need for a new stadium. However the Old garden there was a HUGE need for a new stadium, it had no A/C crappy lockers, rodents, etc... I bet it was sad to see it go, I can't say anything since I never experienced it, but from what I have read if just had to many problems. However Fenway is perasonal to me, if it ever goes I will be pissed, but I doubt they will demlolish it soon.

Fenway won't go because new owners too cheap to build a new ballpark. Just want to squeeze every cent out of that shithole. Old Boston garden was a much better place to watch a sporting event than Fenway where right field has the most uncomfortable and worst sightlines for seats in the league.
