I bought these irons in a charity shop: 3-6 irons for €3 each. I love them - the ball flies off the face and I find them very forgiving. Good to see your review.

I bought these 20 years ago and played them up to this year. I tried newer clubs but these are just super consistent for me. My father actually bought a set after trying mine. I just sold his graphite set on ebay for $300. I bought my memphis 10 steel set and his for around $120 each. Yes theyre big and jnco jeanish but they look brand new after 30 years of reg use. They also are just as forgiving as modern clubs if not more with more standard lofts. Overall, theyre great clubs to this day and was the most expensive set callaway ever made (with inflation these would be about $3000 these days). The head is full titanium and the block is tungsten. My set is still in my backup bag with Adams woods and driver. I currently am playing Ping Karsten 2015 and those are super easy to hit too.

I believe these are actually titanium club heads with a tungsten weight. That's why the heads were so big, because titanium is lighter than steel. I remember these were $1000+ irons back when they came out which was nuts.

correct, only the doctors at my club had them!

They were actually more than that. They were around $2200 for a 3-PW. A mostly titanium head was too expensive to continue production.

In 30 plus years of playing golf, if have owned just about every iteration of Big Bertha's. Just picked up a used set of these recently. And I forgot how good they are. In this era, Callaway was run by engineers. Ditto, Ping. Then the marketers and asset managers slowly took over. And the new offerings are proof that new clubs are disposable. Not durable like these. It sounds funky to say. But it's part of the appeal of owning these old classics. And one more thing. The go to ball of that era was the balata Titleist 90 compression. Those balls and clubs like these were a match made in heaven.

The best beginner/ intermediate forgiving irons! Started with these, played them for 8 years till I just picked up a set of dynamic gold 105 p790’s

I had these, the Armour T100 and the Titanium Hawkeye. I was on a titanium trend at the time.

I have a full set of these in my bag right now (3-9,PW,AW,SW). Got them on ebay about 2 years ago for about $150, for that amount of money I really love them. I haven't played golf in 15 years so I was looking for something cheap and forgiving, they definitely deliver that

You need to check out the Callaway x12 irons with the Memphis ‘98 shafts. Those irons set the stage for Callaway’s entire x-line for the next 20+ years after they came out.

the original and best.

I play X-16 Steelheads and love them. I believe all Callaway Irons have used an o ring as a ferrule and a lot of their older woods.

I never hit those irons, I have a set of Mizuno T-Zoid T3 Titanium Insert irons. They are oversized but not as chunky as those, also from the late 90's. I do have a set of Callaway x-12's and I love those, Classic Callaway. Thanks for the review.

I had the original BBs and traded them in for X-12s and honestly, they just looked less clunky. Now I just bought a set of these. I can live with boxy like an old Volvo.

Have two sets of theese in case i break one. The ball flies of the face of theese things I love them you can hit pretty much anywhere on the face and get the same result. If you want a big distance forgiving iron grab theese monsters.

I still have the Callaway x12s in my bag and they are too good ( in my opinion) to replace.

There's no steel in the head. Put a magnet on it. It's a titanium head and a tungsten insert. I still play the full set, 1-LW.

How do you rate them?
@robrobbins4906 Жыл бұрын
@@royahoy8655 I love them. Very forgiving, very long, and very straight. Not great for working the ball, but I'm not consistent at that anyways. You have to get used to how big they are, but the size just makes a bigger sweet spot. Also, titanium doesn't wear or rust like steel, so the faces and grooves on my now 26-year-old clubs still look brand new.

I liked the look of the X12 pro series, but never a fan of the big chunky irons, especially these. I remember seeing the price tag when new, and laughing, much laughter.

TGIF!!! Now that is one ugly club. Personally I think the original Big Bertha was a nice looking club. My buddy plays the originals and loves them. Next!

Clubhead is titanium with the bottom insert made of tungsten.
