Such fun to look at what are now "old" trucks. Back when trucks were meant for work. No frills, just an honest truck.

lance ripplinger Base model new trucks are still used for work. No different from what's in the video except quieter, more fuel efficient, and half ton as capable as an old super duty.

dchawk81 You can't drive out of a dealership with a "cheap" work truck anywhere. You're talking at least $24,000 after rebates and such, which is far too much for a base model work truck.

Yeah, some trucks now are working trucks but most new trucks are family vehicles, I have no problem with it because I'd rather see a crew cab truck than a caravan any day, I think minivans look disgusting

@@dustijn Ummmm... of course not. It's not 1987 anymore. Inflation and changed the price a d the vehicle itself has. You aren't paying $40k for a 94 built in 2020, youre paying for a 2020. The trucks themselves have much more involved in them nowadays and much more quality parts.

Here's how it worked. That body style officially ended in 1997. However, there was 'another' F250 that was produced from 1997-1999, called the F250LD (Light Duty) - it shared the F150 body and frame, but had a 4R100 transmission and 7 lug wheels (among different options, including factory 4.10 gears optional), so Ford labeled the older body style as the 'Heavy Duty' to denote it's heavier frame, axles, suspension, and engine options. The 'Light Duty' labeling ended in 1999, and was renamed the 'F-150 7700' from 2000-2003, still sharing the F-150 architecture. Some interesting points about that truck in particular - It's a bit of an uncommon animal being an extended cab short bed. Most people buying the heavier truck opted for the longer bed. The 97 F250/350HD was also unique in that it was the only year (for that body style) that XLT models did NOT come with the aluminum decorative tailgate trim. Instead, they got emblems in each corner of the tailgate, it's actually how I spot a '97' F250/350HD to this day. One other interesting note, there was NO driver side airbag in F250/350 trucks until the Super Duty trucks in 1999. The F150 trucks had driver-only airbags starting in 1994. Even though it lacks a tachometer, it's amazingly simple to add the factory one to the cluster, you literally just swap the gauge panels over from a 92-97 cluster with a tach. Nice video, but next time point out the old-school rear window mounted gun rack. I had one, and they nearly almost always fall off the rear window when you put two heavy shot guns on them. Most people just used them for umbrellas.

Broke Built Seems like Ford them selves Did not want to get rid of that body but simple had to so they can meet the growing demand in a more modern market for 1996 since that body is pretty much what they have using since 1980 i love this body i feel after this body Ford trucks started to become noticeable less attractive.

Nice truck, from an era when they were more basic and utilitarian, less like cars and a hell of a lot cheaper. I live in New Zealand and drive a '94 Sierra, and can relate to your comment about the relative lack of nagging in older trucks re the seat belt. In my Sierra there is a buzz that lasts about 3 seconds on startup and a small light on the dash but that is all. By the end of our driveway I have the seat belt secured anyway.

Yes more oldies please! 1997 was the first year of the 97-03 body style. There was an F250 light duty in the new body style. When the SuperDuty came out that truck became the F150 7700. (I have a 2001 F150 7700.)
@brokebuilt4827
@brokebuilt4827 7 жыл бұрын
Not quite, the F150 7700 was a regular F150 truck with a heavier transmission, a stiffer rear leaf pack, heavier front torsion bars (if it was 4wd), and factory optional 4.10 gears.

@eileenh4772 7 жыл бұрын
Broke Built Agreed. But the point I was trying to make was the F250 Light Duty starting in 1997 until the Super Duty came out (2000? 2001? Not sure on the year) is the same truck as the F150 7700. While the 250 Light Duty was the new style body, the 250 Heavy Duty was in the old style body, sold concurrently.

Didn't even open the engine compartment. One of the features that "truck guys" are usually interested in the mechanical aspects, like for instance the 460 C.I.D. The 1994-1997 Ford F-250 gets horrendous mileage; it's somewhere in the range of 8-12 mpg. However, its 245 hp at 4,000 rpm isn't going to get you the hole-shot of the line but it the torque of this engine 400 lb-ft at 2,200 rpm will tow anything with in reason. I believe the best feature of these older trucks is that it's as functional as any of the newer trucks but won't cost you upwards of $70,000. Why not buy one of these and invest the other $64,000 into your kids college fund?

I like what you get with that truck because it is a real truck not a luxury car, and it wouldn't have cost 45,000 dollars new.

It was around $25,000 new in 97 which would be nearly $38,000 today.

Daniel Lockwood Because that's the only way us poor people can afford to buy one. I was looking at the newer F150s several years ago and was interested in a 2012. I took it for a drive and really liked it, but it was more than I wanted to pay. The salesman asked if there was anything he could do to get me in that truck that day and I said knock off $15,000. He said that was ridiculous and I told him so was the price! If I had bought that truck for the price they were asking I'd've had to finance it for 12 years!

Grabs the handle for the vent window and says the truck has manual mirrors. Then opens the ash tray and says it a storage cubby. Maybe he should stick to just doing new vehicles.

Why did all Fseries trucks with the v8's always get the passenger side exhaust manifold leak. Just replaced mine on my 97 f250 with the 5.8. Had to replace the manifold with a new one sounds great now with more power. Best truck ever built IMO

The cigarette lighter is next to the ashtray in the same pull out drawer, like any other car or truck.The flip up to the left is auxiliary 12v of course. My December 97’ has “Power Point” designation for the flip lid port. If you look closely you can see it. Anyways why didn’t the detailers fix the nasty looking holes in the dashboard and steam shampoo the heavily stained carpet? Y’all might replace the bent to hell bumper with a decent straight one? Go through it and fix all the goofs. That all seems easy to do. Also it sounds like a pretty rough start up at the exhaust like it needs some work. Detail the engine compartment and get rid of all the grime and dirt. Make it look new. Get it all squared away before a potential buyer crawls under there to look at it and finds something to complain about. I thought everyone has to wear seatbelts when driving, but you say we don’t need to wear them while driving that truck? I never heard anything like that before. Ohh yeah I almost forgot, fix the big body dent below the drivers fixed half window and all the deep gouges in the paint and replace that beat up tail gate so it doesn’t look like y’all are trying to send off a pooper to an unsuspecting someone who doesn’t know any better😂

I think that the 1997 F250/ and up line ran past the normal cut off. There didn't seem to be a 1998 model year. The (new) 1999 Super Duty line came out early like April 1998.

Back then, Ford had a habit of rolling trucks off the line waaaay earlier than their model year indicated. Next time you're on a car lot and you see a 97' F150 (first year of the "round" body), look at the production date. The first ones rolled off the line in October of 1995! They were also rolling 2001 Supercrew trucks off the line in March of 2000. There was a F250 in 1998, the F250LD. Most of us try to forget it existed.
