Love these old RPTVs. My mom bought a RCA for $4,000 brand new back in 1994 (she got a nice job the year prior and had just got promoted), and that TV was a workhorse. It was encased in actual friggin OAK. We had it turned on pretty much 24/7 and it didn't die until 2006. Power supply died after 100,000 hours. Bought a 1080i Hitachi DLP to upgrade. Wish we'd have kept the RCA in the garage at least. I played the N64 for the first time on that thing, watched Dragonball Z for the first time on it, watched Star Wars the first time, Jurassic Park, Fifth Element, the Matrix. Irks me when people say these things had a shitty picture or were unreliable. Thank you for making this video and showing how indestructible these babies are!

Be careful in the back, those CRT's have a much higher voltage than most regular CRT's. They are around 35 KV, and normal CRT's are 20 to 25 KV at the flyback transformer. You also need an NTSC test signal generator or something with dots and crosses on it, or you will drive yourself crazy trying to tweak it correctly! I've spent days aligning these things! they will drive you completely crazy after awhile! With NTSC, the Green is 59% of the signal, the red is 33%, and the blue is 11%. Just like you said, adjust the green for size, position, skew, pincushion, kerning, linearity, and keystone. Then do the red, and then the blue. Projection TV CRT convergence adjustments are not fun! Make sure you leave it powered on for a couple of hours before you try to adjust anything because as it heats up, the convergence will drift all over the place! www.flickr.com/photos/adinazed/6234282586 I tried to find a half-decent video about CRT convergence, and shocking there weren't many of them... This guy does a sort of okay job explaining it. The purity magnets might help you, but may not. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iX_JZoZ5i82Vack kzbin.info/www/bejne/rnLFoqiZp7x7oLc This one is better... he at least explains all the terms, but it is all computer-controlled and not pots. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGnFkKdvmcqsiNE

To do the convergence right you have to use a pattern generator a DVD with test patterns on it. You start with green and then converge red. Blue comes last and will not converge as good since the blue beam is usually made a little more blurry by design to fill in between the scan lines somewhat. Cover the lens you do not converge at the time for easier visibility or switch of the corresponding color if you have a pattern generator. If you can not converge the colors on the full screen, the capacitors on old convergence boards are often the problem. On more modern convergence boards with digital convergence control, the STK amplifier transistors are 99% the cause of problems. This one seems of the old type with potentiometers so you have to check the voltages of the convergence board first if you have converging problems. But with a gap on the side so big you may also have to check the horizontal output circuits...
@Raw7744 жыл бұрын
Just in case you didn't know; the liquid is ethylene glycol, so if you're planning to mess with or disassemble any of the lenses it'd be good to do it over an oil tray or something.

Take care of the X-rays. We had a BARCO cinema projector at ESOC (European Space Agency) Darmstadt, Germany and we had BARCO come from Belgium to tune those three tubes. We used it somewhat beside the specifications and they had to increase the amperes for the blue tube. More anode current results in dramatically more X-Rays and we were not allowed to seat people directly under the projector or two meters around. Your roof is high enough and your screen is small enough. There should not be a problem but it is always good to know anode voltage times anode amperes results in Y-rays. Tube amplifiers in Hamradio are as dangerous as video stuff and even good old oscilloscopes are far from harmless. Screening the wooden case with aluminum foil might help to keep all kind of gremlins away. I remember one of those color displays a client had sent back. When I turned it on it was as bright as the sun and I could see things I have never seen before or after. I can imagine what those liquidators might have seen on the roof of the Chernobyl reactor. I am still alive but I dont have children .

well DVI contains VGA if i recall, if your tv takes DVI but only accepts the VGA, well, then your HDMI-DVI converter probably only steps it down to the digital side of DVI. so you should look into what exactly you have and what signal you need. I miss my NES system, emulators just aren't the same. Any specific games you enjoy for the NES the most? I liked the Castlevania series, Duck Hunt, Friday the 13th, Zelda series, Mario Bros, Solstice, Super Mario Bros series, and Wizards and Warriors II. I didn't have much access to games but managed to find some stashed away in thrift stores back in the 90s. Overall a neat project. I have never had or messed with a projection TV. If you do a custom box for it, you could probably mount it to a wall. Maybe create a sliding mechanism so you can raise and lower it or just straight up mount it. Not sure how much weight your walls can handle like that though, haven't gotten around to watching the videos of you building the workshop lol. If you have access to a welder and some decent welding skills, I can imagine building a mount that will allow you to swivel the TV and angle it and move it close to or away from the wall to get it just right.

@@RinoaL Ever played Hexen? If I had to point to one old game that I have played the most, it was Hexen : Beyond Heretic. Mostly played it on the Sega Saturn, but found later than it can also be played on PC. For RPG-style games, the one I probably played the most was a game that for the life of me I can't remember the name of lol. It was a shareware game set underground early in the series and later above ground and involved magic and aliens and such. It takes the title as the only PC game I was actually happy to buy. I tend to play open-source or free games on the PC now with some small exceptions. I've mostly been into FPS and sandbox games, never had much chance to play RPG style games. I also enjoy strategy games such as Battle for Wesnoth. If you like 3D FPS shooters, Alien Arena was fun, until every server at the time banned me thinking I was botting lol. Now that I think about it, I don't think I've actually played any games in probably a year or two. The last game I played was Minecraft when I was hosting a server to see how difficult it was to host one. Not difficult to host, but difficult to advertise and get players without spending a lot of money. I have a bad habit of spending too much time playing a game, getting burned out, then either never playing it again or waiting years to play it again. So, to prevent wasting too much time, I just don't tend to play many games anymore. I'm curious, if you had to name one game title that you enjoyed the absolute most, what would it be and what platform was it on?
