The LJ4 and LJ4000 series are probably the best, and way faster than this thing

Rinoua that reminds mw off using an old HP laserprinter in 1988 i think weight more than 30 kg (60 pounds) and run it with 2 adapters parallel tot telephone line and back to parallel at the printer. has good use for 5 years. got it for nothing but a sore back lifting it 2 stairs up. love your recycling, cant throw away anything thats repairable

Ah, the good old school 6L... Those things were damn legendary for their reliability. Being over 25 years old, I'm not surprised it can be hard to get supplies for. On the other hand, you get no mandatory cloud, premature obsolescence, none of that enshittification rubbish. And the unboxing ASMR, nice!

I like how it can be offline. Funny that its something to like now.

After filming this video, I searched these up on ebay, and sadly I worry I may have to sell this someday to pay rent. Kinda a shame but I get the appeal a lot. It makes me glad I also saved a Laserjet 2100. Was going to strip it for a video but now I have to try to sell that one at least. And maybe sell my other Laserjet 6P printers... but I really hope I can keep this 6L.

I have one, but the cork pads are worn out and it grabs multiple sheets. I also have the net print box for it.

That first toner cartridge may have put out all black pages because of a stiffened silicone wiper blade not doing its job of cleaning the OPC anymore or the drum ground connection went bad (corrosion?). I am surprised it didn't jam. Every one of those I have seen since 2016 had to have transport rollers replaced because they transformed into jelly/tar balls. Anyway, shaking a toner cartridge to redistribute and declump the toner dust is always a good idea. But the OPC (drum) is not forever. It may loose its sensitivity with time. It can develop defects like cracks. Sometimes it is better to buy recently made third party toner cartridge, than OEM from quarter of a century ago. As a printer tech - I get that those older printers have an undeniable charm. But there are really decent ones made well after 2004. Personally I like LJ 1018/1020/1606 , P1102, 1536dnf, more high volume 4350, M602dn... None of those need a registration or Internet connection. The P1102 even has Windows driver in its own memory that shows as a read only drive when you connect it via USB (and this feature can be disabled if you want to). And they all work great with cheap third party cartidges. And there are other printer companies. Ricoh for example made sturdy MP171 and MP201 models. Small, but made like a scaled down version of a big office photocopier.

I use a Samsung ML-1660. It is very reliable, fast, offline and simple.

I hadn't expected to see a mass spectrometer acting as a table for your printer. Conversation piece or practical use?

So you googled "lcq deca xp plus" to see what that thing was too, huh??

If CuriousMarc can't fix a piece of HP equipment, what chance do us mortals have 😔

printers (especially user oriented models) and PC's aren't really "true" HP gear. And the enterprise HP printers that actually are good were all made by Canon, with HP badges on the plastics and branding in the software.

It was lying 20 years/ Read the manual, give the toner a shake before install!

You say that like it isnt working fine. Its been shaken enough by the mail, and will be shaken more by me moving it around

@@RinoaL whiter areas show it wants to be slapped a bit more and harder from left and right to get the toner even.
@RinoaL2 күн бұрын
@@shmeleu I don't really see that as a big issue though tbh, many printers printed this way when new so I expect it. It'll sort itself out in use.

They were the epitomy of horrible hp design. Dirt falls in from the top, jamming the paperway and ruining the drum. These printers hardly lasted a year. They underpin why i always buy a tray loading fully enclosed workgroup printer. Gosh these were horrible.
@RinoaL2 күн бұрын
Well Id presume they shouldnt be in a place with dirt tbh
@HainjeDAF2 күн бұрын
@RinoaL the problem is that the printer is fully open from the top side so dust and dirt will always fall in. Hence nowadays almost all printers do horizontal loading and unloading of paper to stop dirt ingress. No matter how clean your workspace is, common household dust will settle anywhere.

Then again we keep our apartment much cleaner than others do, so I guess for the average house it wouldnt be fitting
