If someone is reading this and it happens to you, prime it then push the key in for choke, if it doesn’t start prime it again and try a couple times without choke. If still doesn’t work trim the motor all they way up to let the fuel drain from the carby and repeat it all again also check your fuel line for any holes or there might be water in the fuel

You would be amazed on what a little Quickstart does for these Johnsons in the morning.. turn it over until she starts turning on and off like that, Take the airbox off and spray some Quickstart into the carb and she will fire right up first try. Regarding the misfire, you should pull off all the carbs and make sure all the gaskets and all rubber pieces on the carbs are in good working order. Better yet by the six carb kits and it comes with everything. could just be a little air getting by on one of your carbs causing it to misfire

check your fuel line for any cracks. also make sure you use high octane gas and fully synthetic oil

when u have trouble to start the motor like in the video, remove the spark plugs for a couple minutes and let the extra fuel in the cilinders evaporate then ur motor will start easily

Besides being flooded from not firing on all cylinders and priming too long (he admitted it), it's impossible to diagnose this thing through a KZbin video. Fun to guess, though!

As was said, check fuel line for cracks or other air leaks. An easy way to tell if there's air getting into the system is to temporarily put a clear piece of pvc hose in from the fuel filter to VRO pump. Make it loop up and then back down. If air accumulates at the top while the engine is running, you know it's pulling air from somewhere.... at the in-tank pickup or at the fuel filter, or anywhere between. This will cause these motors to pump in way too much oil. Second thing to check is the shift interrupt switch where the throttle linkage attaches to the block. If this is always engaged, it causes the motor to run on 3 of the 6 cylinders. Disconnect the wire (usually black with yellow stripe) coming from that switch to see if that's the issue. Third, check the under flywheel magnet blocks. They have a tendency to come loose and can be epoxied back in place. Forth, carbs. These carbs have main jets that like to get loose and back out. They are behind the drain plugs. If the engine has the old style flat drain plugs, the jet can bottom out against the face of the plug causing that cylinder to go lean... ruining that cylinder. Of course, if these get nowhere, do a compression check and then start looking at the power pack and such. This is besides the obvious things of fuel contamination or bad wires/plugs.

Are you letting off? Or is it just stalling? Your cranks are too short. My OMC 200 V6 takes at least 2 or 3 few cycle cranks before it sparks up and turns over while cold. Once it's warm it fires right up first crank. IIRC all 2 strokes will smoke a small bit like yours on cold starts out the water piss port. Let it crank a little longer. But if it doesn't run right check the plugs, plug wires, gaps, field system, and timing. One of my plug wires just blew on mine and I need new plugs but she still fires up. Again cold starts need some extra time to turn over. Also make sure you are using your choke and your carb is good

I can crank my 1988 Evinrude 175 for 100 years until the battery wears out. I think this model has some weird circuit that cuts power to the starter (thus, bendix pulls back) if the RPM is too low or something. Seems funny, haha. I actually have the opposite problem sometimes, I can't get the bendix to pop out and engage the flywheel. Old parts, low voltage, etc...

I had an old chain saw that no one else could start. You had to choke it full throttle and pull till it hit. Then turn the choke off and pull till it hit. Turn the choke on and repeat till it ran.

It’s clearly miss firing. NEVER EVER allow a 2 stroke to run if it’s miss firing. 2 strokes deliver the oil with the gas. If you have a fuel problem you also have an oil problem. Catastrophic engine damage will occur. Find out what the problem is before you let it destroy itself.

It still will pull a oil/gas mix through the rotation assembly and lube the roller bearings, it just won't produce power on that cylinder.

dude my johnson had all types of problems but now ive fixed everyhting, u need to switch the black box, this will end the misfire. about the start problem, its on ur fuel system, check to see if the choke is okay, mine was broken and the fuel was passing and filling the cilinders with fuel, in that way they have too much fuel to start, so i turned off the choke and always when i do the first start of the day, i pump fuel in the hose and open the choke (little red switcher) for a couple of seconds then u can start up the motor for the rest of the day...
