Here's a quick reseal of my 1997 Yamaha Virago forks. I refilled the forks to 7" below the top of the leg with the springs out and the forks compressed as the factory manual states.

Thank you for taking the time to make this video! I’m just waiting for my parts to come in so I can do this service to my Vmax. Well, that and replace the fuel pump 🥴

Very good vid, clear and easy to understand, I have 3 sets to do. But every forum I have been on said not to use motor oil, I would love to know where you got your info please.
@vancouvercyclist3 жыл бұрын
Hi John. The reason I used motor oil in my fork was because of what I read in the link below. I saw that it said Yamaha fork oil 10wt or SAE 10W30 type SE. I've ridden the bike for about one month now and it performs just as it did with the straight weight fork oil. But remember, I'm just a guy in his garage so do what feels right for you! yamaha-virago.17922.x6.nabble.com/FRONT-FORK-OIL-QUANTITY-td5011897.html

Most often people say to not use motor oil because it will foam. Most brands of oils have anti foaming agents to prevent that. You're fine. In fact yamaha actually says you can substitute fork oil for motor oil, but just double check the weight.

To get better finish on fork legs that have chips or water corrosion marks , strip clear cote off with paint stripper, polish with Solvo autosoll( heavy metal polish) or wet/dry before the polish., then wash clean,dry and rattle can clear cote to finish. Should come up like new.

If the threads are messed up in the pilot screw hole, is there anything that can be done to save that carb and have the pilot screw work as it should, 96 1100?

Are they also adjustable with air? Mine has a schrader valve on it which you can put air into. Not sure what it does as ive never played with it, but the shocks are leaking and need rebuild. Is an 80's XV1100 btw.
@vancouvercyclist3 жыл бұрын
These ones do not have a schrader valve but I have seen other model years with them. I would have liked them on this bike as the front fork always felt under sprung to me. Good luck with your project!
@sisaketmike3 жыл бұрын
A good job. But why not fill in the amount Yamaha tells you to? I did mine 2 years ago and opened the lowest screw first, then it's an easy exercise. It's really time for the world to go metric!!!!
@daniellarno74773 жыл бұрын
The world is using metric.. only 3 countries that don't..

This is great! Do you happen to know if this fork assembly is similar to the 89 XV1100? Or is that a whole different monkey?
@vancouvercyclist3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, I’m confident that it would be the same procedure for all virago xv1100 from ‘86-‘99. Good luck!
@timschrock3 жыл бұрын
@@vancouvercyclist very good. I looked at my forks and they have the same hex “bolts” at top and bottom as this video so I’m hopeful.
