I don't understand how you warranted this many dislikes. All around descent video. Informative, to the point and always on topic. Too many blather on about something unrelated to the subject and even migrate to something off topic like their dog. Some editing for lenght could cut the run time down a bit. Still a good solid "B".

IMPORTANT - only take off the top thermostat cover with the 10mm bolts. DO NOT undo the 12mm bolts of the rest of the assembly behind as it is very difficult and time-consuming to get back without leaks as there is a big pipe going into the side of it at 45 degrees with only a rubber O-ring to seal it.

Should I do a flush after fixing the thermostat? Replace hoses? The video was great - it helped me fix my 2000 Accord i4 SE. It was overheating badly - the engine would come up to temp and stay there for a minute or so and then it would literally shoot up and past the H. Turning on the heater in the car did nothing - no heat came out, so I knew something was keeping the coolant from flowing. In the process of troubleshooting, it overheated 5 or 6 times so I am worried about damage to hoses but more importantly to the engine. No blue smoke or idle problems so far but I am wondering if I should do a major radiator/engine flush and which hoses I should replace. Any advice would be appreciated.
@NutzAboutBolts
@NutzAboutBolts 8 жыл бұрын
+Chris S if you haven't done a coolant flush then I would do it, but if it's done recently, no need to waste coolant on it. Just top the coolant off once replacing the thermostat or radiator hoses. As for over heating, the thermostat probably didn't open and cause the engine to over heat.

There is a third screw to hold that bracket, which will make your life a lot easier because you will be able to use the socket wrench to remove that other hard screw at the bottom.... if you want to make things even easier, the water coolant hose can also be easily removed with a pair of good pliers - engage the clamp and move it out of the way and it's off.

I have a 2002 accord that needed a water pump. I has left water in engine wen we had snow storm and few days later had a water pump problem. had a honda tech replace timing belts and water pump. and bleed the antifreeze. drove maybe 20 miles temp needle stayed normal then suddenly it rose to 3/4. quickly turned car off and let it cool. checked antifreeze and didn't need any. took thermostat out this evening and drove 2 night & has done same thing.any suggestions?

Can that be the cause of over heating...? Cause it’ll just go up and down by it self and sometimes it’ll go up and start overheating my car.!! I changed the radiator so that shouldn’t be the problem anymore.!!

thanks for the vid! Im no mechanic, but I am willing to bet that this is the culprit on my wife's car. The past week and half or so the car has overheated twice, each time there is coolant drops/splashes everywhere on that side (left side) near the air filter and thermostat and some residue ( Im assuming dried antifreeze). After we got it home the second time, i finally noticed a hissing sound that seemed to be originating in the same area. Thoughts? @nutzaboutbolts

@NutzAboutBolts
@NutzAboutBolts 8 жыл бұрын
water won't cool down the heat, you need 50 coolant and 50 water mixture or else you will over heat the engine. Do a coolant pressure testing to see if your cooling system is leaking or not... then fix the issue before you drive it anymore. You will blow a head gasket if you don't and you will have to buy a new engine if it happens. Good luck.

Israel Cazares fill the coolant back up, do a pressure test, if you have a leak in the system, you will immediately see a drop in pressure and will see a leak somewhere. Hope that helps.

Yeah your pops is right. Glad it's not the winter time also. Also if you can't afford it sometimes the junkyard sells used coolant. If you have a Pull a Part near you they sell it for $3. That's better than pure water. But I also buy walmart a 50/50 and it cheap too.
