Drainplug probably is more apt to strip out as it gets older from being over-torqued so many times over the years and often this happens because people fail to replace the crush washer each time. The more you use the same crush washer over the more you have to crush it to prevents leaks. I've never had a problem but I never let anyone else change my oil. I just changed our granddaughter's oil and had to replace her drainplug because there was an old copper crush washer on it that looked like it had been used for the past 207,000 miles. It was really thin and I could not get it off.

Yep, I always replace the washers as well, it amazes me how many don't. Thanks for watching!

I believe you will begin to experience a rattle noise later on down the road if you use a oil filter that has a anti drain back feature. As the vvti systems need lubrication and since the anti drain back system is preventing your cams from having oil in them it will be dry and cause a rattle noise. Use a non anti drain valve oil filter

I have been using conventional on my 2002 Lexus IS 300 it has like 190k I just did oil change with high mileage Castrol synthetic blend. Is that good oil? Should I use full synthetic next time?
@redonKiLaus6 жыл бұрын
Castrol is good quality oil in general - I prefer Mobil 1, but Castrol is my second choice (and I use it exclusively in my Euro cars now since it is all I can find locally in the correct weights). I definitely recommend using full synthetic oil in the Lexus 2JZ engines (or any Lexus engine for that matter), as that is what they are designed to run and is what provides both optimal engine life and prolonged oil life. That said, if you have any oil leaks now, they will become worse with full synthetic because of its molecular structure, and any seals that are on the verge of leaking will indeed turn into actual leaks with synthetic oil. The full synthetics are not breaking your seals, but are exposing issues that you did not know were present. I always run full synthetic oil in every vehicle I own. I have had vehicles in the past with over 300k miles, and no appreciable wear on most points in the engine.
@arikoenig45366 жыл бұрын
Should I try full synthetic on next oil change? And if it there are leaks go back to high mileage blend?
@redonKiLaus6 жыл бұрын
Personally, I'd switch over permanently and if it leaks, fix the leak. I'm very particular about fluid leaks and seeps, as well as correctness of fluids used, and like to recommend others the same methodology to preserve the life of their vehicles.

No need to jack up the car? Also should oil be at full level or halfway mark on dipstick
@redonKiLaus6 жыл бұрын
You will need to lift it in some fashion if pulling the drain plug. I use an oil extractor for most oil changes and only pull the plug once every few, hence why it wasn't in the video. Thanks for watching!

And to answer your other question, I fill it to the full level, but anywhere between the low and high marks should be fine.

is there not an undercover to get to the filter from under body?

@redonKiLaus7 жыл бұрын
I don't have a video on replacing that part as it's not something I've needed to do at this point. When you're doing that job, I would also recommend checking out the throttle control motor too, since issues that may indicate that sensor going bad can end up pointing back to the motor as well - common failure. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

@redonKiLaus6 жыл бұрын
As long as you have good contact between the flanged drain plug's head and the crush washer, you're good to go - I've been using those same crush washers on all of my Toyotas for 20+ years and if changed at every oil change, you will never have a leak from the drain plug.
