Thanks for the vid. I just bought a 2006 gs300 with only 56k miles from the original owner. Super clean. Didn’t know till after I bought it, but it had this 1 second rattle at cold start. I ran it through a cycle of liqui moly engine flush and switched to 0w20 Mobil 1 and problem is gone. My reason for that is it’s easier on the motor on cold starts and it’s what Toyota and Lexus are switching to with all their cars.

Dirty intake throttle body can also cause slight rough idle on cold start but I can’t imagine 56k mikes being super dirty.
@CorgiSeager

Based on what I read, it had something to do with a pin in the cam gears being stuck until the oil from the engine startup hit it. The liqui moly cleans it up and the 0w20 reaches the cam gears faster at cold start than 5w30. I paid exactly 10k for it. The car is practically new. Original everything. The only thing I’ve done besides the oil change and air filter is I installed a set of 19” wheels from a 2021 Lexus is350.

Very good and informative video. I am not very good when it comes to mechanics on car, but your tutorial is so easy, plus I love the fact that you show the tools. Very proffesional, liked and subscribed. I have a 2007 GS300, 108k miles, and I live in UK. Many cars here have problems with rust underneath, mine has on both sides corrosion exactly where I should put the jack. I actually tried to put the jack in the back and it lifted the car, 2 seconds later, it fell.(no one and nothing was hurt, the wheel was still on). Is that something you can change? or you need welding? And I am curious also about the brake line, how they run on the car. on mine, one brake line in the back, had a hole through it, caused by the dirt protection under the wheel arch in the back. That upholstery cover under the wheel arches in the back, are in direct contact with your brake line, and friction is quite big if it makes a hole through your brake line. Throw an eye on there next time you take wheels off, and maybe we can get a video on how to change that main line would be great.
@DIYLifeSkills
@DIYLifeSkills 2 жыл бұрын
If you have a floor jack like me, and not the dangerous cheapie that comes with the car, the best place to jack is on body frame under the car. You can see strong thick metal beams that hold up the car. Safety caution: never trust the jack only. Always, place jack stand on sturdy metal frame and carefully avoid anything like oil or transmission pan, other other weak parts. Straightening out and rewelding a that jack point area is possible, but it's gonna be hard to restore original strength, and it's something that has to be done at a shop.
@DIYLifeSkills
@DIYLifeSkills 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's dangerous to have the brake line be rubbing on something. If you got a hole in the brake line, oh boy, that needs to be replaced ASAP, otherwise once you lose sufficient brake fluid, you might not have braking capability. Once replaced, see if you can get a strong plastic tie, and secure the brake line to something that'll prevent the rubbing.

@@DIYLifeSkills I've discovered the fault after it happened, in traffic... brake pedal to the metal, nothing, then i did pressed it again, and again, nothing... emergency brake, nothing. The Miracle (can't call it otherwise), is that it happened 1/2 mile before home, and most of the trip was uphill, and thanks to a big car park, I was able to put it in N, and let it stop. Scary, don't joke around with the brakes. For now, I've cut 1inch of the upholstery cover that was rubbing, both sides. I've put poxilina(paste) over, wrapped a nylon construction string type, more poxilina over, bleeding on all wheels, now brakes hold properly. This I DO NOT recommend, it is just a quick fix to get me to the service, as towing costs are incredible.
@DIYLifeSkills

@@Peechu1 Wow, awesome temporary fix. Hopefully it'll hold until permanent fix. That brake line can put 800 psi on normal braking, to near 2000 psi on hard and quick braking. So brake carefully for now. :-)

The problem with 10,000 mile oil change is oil gets too dirty and carbon deposits clogs up the pistons rings. Therefore, piston rings can't stretch/spring outward to scrape down the oil in the combustion chamber to recover the oil. So left oil on combustions chambers gets burned during the explosion phase of 4 stroke engine. This is why you don't see any oil leak but oil level goes down as you drive.
@DIYLifeSkills
@DIYLifeSkills 8 ай бұрын
You can try "BG109 Compression Engine Performance Restore BG EPR" product in attempt to dissolve the carbon build up on your piston rings...if it's not too late. What year and how many miles do you have?

On a Lexus gs300 is it better to use full synthetic or is it fine to use without synthetic???
@DIYLifeSkills
@DIYLifeSkills 4 ай бұрын
If you are going to do 10K miles oil change, then definitely you need to use full synthetic. However 10K mile oil change slowly leads to carbon build up around piston rings and eventually end up burning oil. Therefore, I recommend that doing 5K mile oil change. At 5K mile change, it's important to keep to the 5K mile oil change more than whether it's full synthetic or now. It turns out both Costco and Walmart brand full-synthetic oil is cheaper, so I would use those. That's what I started to do now.

I did trans fluid at 95k on my 06' at the dealer for a couple of hundred. More than a year later at 102k and transmission is as smooth as ever. No idea if they did a drain and fill or a flush. Service advisor said it was a drain and fill, tech that handled my car said they did a flush. There's a chance neither were done 😂

Less than 1/8” over max should be OK, but if it’s more than 3/8” more, than you might want to take out some.
@DIYLifeSkills
@DIYLifeSkills 7 ай бұрын
Engine oil has detergent so if engine parts that move up and down like piston arm, touch the oil in the pan, it can turn some oil into foam, which will inhibit smooth oil flow through various tiny holes in the engine. So it’s important to keep the engine oil close to max or just below.

Had to get rid of mine, the piston soak didn't help the oil consumption. So she had to move along. Left a very sour taste in my mouth about Lexus for some reason.
@DIYLifeSkills
@DIYLifeSkills 2 жыл бұрын
I know you tried to fix that, so sorry to hear your experience. The previous owner prior neglected to do regular oil changes, and too much carbon built up on 3rd piston ring and that piston can't no longer scrape the oil on the cylinder wall down to the crankcase. Hence, burning oil. I'm switching to 5K mile oil change on all my cars. I think the 10K mile oil change is too long and is the key reason why pistons end up burning oil. Hope you find a better car next time. Thanks for the update.

I like how you compare the size of the old and new parts. It helps to confirm that you got the right parts (unless the old part wasn't right). Also kudos for using the correct torque specs. You don't need any tools to remove the o-ring. In fact the instructions on the OEM oil filter box says not to use any. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2GnkKl9e8x_epo Do you have a problem with oil consumption or leaking seals? If not then there's no reason to use high mileage oil. I've had a few cars with over 200,000 miles and never needed high mileage oil.
@DIYLifeSkills
@DIYLifeSkills 2 жыл бұрын
High mileage wasn't the intention, but Walmart didn't have Mobile 1 oil that I was looking. In fact, I don't recommend high mileage unless one has oil burning issues because it's too thick and on cold days, I can feel from the engine is not getting proper lubrication on cold temperature start until it warms up. As for the use of the pick, that's good info to know...although that was in reference to plastic oil caps. This car has aluminum cap. I'll give the paper towel trick next time though.

be careful about doing transmission fluid change if u purchased a used 1 and don’t know the history of the fluid. I purchased a 2009 with 101k in 2020. last November I decided 2 switch out 4 quarts and change filter. car runs fine but I do notice a little slippage until the fluid heats up. now if it’s freezing or below I let it warm a little longer and do a couple of shifts between P R N D before I start driving. it’s not a big issue and it seems 2 be getting better but I definitely would not recommend a trans flush.
