It would be really nice if you went into more detail on the amp setup. I have had nothing but trouble trying to get the gains set using the CD. The instructions that come with the amp are weak and I can't get any of the lights to come on unless I do it by ear.

I have a 2012 Street glide and bought this with the installation kit. The issue I am having is I previously had speakers installed in the rear lids and they were wired with a HD wiring harness that has connectors up in the fairing. Rockford Fosgate make connectors I can run off the input/output of the amplifier to these connectors? It is a HD wiring harness 69200022. It would make things much easier then using the wires supplied to the speakers in the rear. If not, I would need to splice into these wires I assume, both going to radio and coming from speakers.

The Deutsche style connectors supplied with the Rockford Fosgate HD9813SG-TKIT & HD9813RG-TKIT are for connection to the radio outputs only. Unfortunately, we don't build special wiring harnesses designed to interface with existing Boom! audio bag-lids. If we were doing this install in our bay, we'd just splice into the existing cables, solder the connections and cover them with heat shrink.

Ok so great video but the only thing I have a question on is the audio signal. Where is the amp getting the audio signal to amplify. Usually you have an input on an amp and then the output to the speakers. Are the original speaker wires inserted in to an input signal port on the amp?

Hi Adam, This is our 1st Generation system that is no longer being produced. Our newer Gen-2 system is listed below. QUESTION: You connected the amp straight to the battery! Which means that it will always be powered and not off when the key is off, thus draining the battery. Why is there not an adapter to connect to the radio power?

Hi 65davem19, the amplifier does not remain on because it has a "sensing" turn-on circuit. When the factory radio turns on, the amplifier's signal input circuit senses the "DC Offset" voltage present on the speaker outputs, which then turns-on the amplifier. Once the radio turns off, there is no more DC Offset to be recognized, and the amplifier shuts down. This is similar to starting up your motorcycle ... you turn the ignition on, the solenoid activates and starts cranking the engine, but one you release the ignition, the solenoid retracts and stops.

Great install video! i just bought the RF T400x4ad amp and have the same year Street Glide like in this video. Question about my amp that i bought... do i need to buy the installation kit? And to install my amp is it similar to this amp in the video? Sorry i know much about this sort of thing i want to do the install myself without taking the bike to the dealership

We highly recommend purchasing the RFKHD kit because we've included everything needed to install a T400X4ad amplifier. It includes all the properly sized B+ and GND cables, a remote turn-on cable, signal input cables, and bracket/heatsink designed for optimum amplifier mounting. All cables are also terminated with the proper OEM wiring plugs so you're not cutting factory wiring harnesses. This is great because you can remove the amplifier and reinstate the factory audio system if you decide to sell the bike in the future.

I have four speakers in my fairing right now. I want to add two speakers in my saddle bags. My question is this...... Can I connect the amplifier I have now to two more speakers for my saddle bag? Or do I need to buy a separate amp for the two extra speakers before I put them in the bag? Jut to let you know I will be using Rockford Fosgate 6”x9” speakers for the bags.

Hi G More, with that amplifier, unfortunately no since it's a closed system designed for 4 speakers only (one per channel). Although we would typically recommend a second amplifier, you'll have a mismatch of power between your fairing speakers and the bag-lids. This begins at 11:23 where the speaker outputs from the radio are connected to the harness that feeds the amplifier's inputs. Keep in mind, this is our 1st generation kit that was discontinued a few years ago. Once you found the clipping point of the radio (on 1998-2013 models it's at the "E" on the VOLUME scale, you'll set the LEDs so they just start to flicker red. Hi Hate Tank, the amplifier turns-on using the DC Offset from the speaker outputs. This signal goes directly into the INPUT of the amplifier, then the OUTPUT goes to the speakers.

I have a 2007 Electra glide classic... not the ultra- I bought used. It has the factory stereo and speakers in it (no amp). I would like to upgrade the speakers at this time. (I don’t have the money right now for stereo & amp... damn corona virus!) Can you guys recommend a speaker upgrade, that I will get more volume and better sound quality from, without the addition of an amp? Thanks!

Hi Robert, Hope you and your family are safe! If you simply want to upgrade the speakers now, look for high sensitivity speakers so you can convert watts output from the radio as efficiently as possible to create output from the speaker. The Rockford Fosgate TMS6SG models for your 2007 Electra Glide are equivalent to pro-audio type speakers since they have a 91 dB sensitivity, which is very high compared to a lot of speakers you'll see on the market that are in the 80's. At 1 watt input, the speaker will play 91 dB loud, and so forth. Ultimately, you'll want an amplifier like the TM400X4ad so you hear at higher speeds. Question: I want to install this system on my 2011 ElectraGlide Classic, with no tour-pak speakers. However I would like to add the Rockford Fosgate PP4-T 1-1/2" tweeters to this system. If I were to eliminate the ambient temperature gauge and the battery voltage gauge, do the "super tweeters" fit into the spaces for the front gauges? Also, would I need to switch the amplifier to 4-channel mode for this setup? Any help on tackling this project would be great.

The throat of the PP4-NT tweeters is 1.79" in diameter as shown on page #4 of the manual, so you can use that dimension to see if it will fit inside the gauge hole: www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/library/2015/4_speakers/1230-59166-02_rf_punchprotweeters-man.pdf You will keep the amplifier input switch in 2-channel input, because we're only using a single left/right signal to feed all channels of the amplifier. The switch has no effect on configuring how many channels are used on the amp, only how many inputs are used to feed the amplifier. However, if you'll be using the rear speaker outputs dedicated to those PP4-NT tweeters (no bag-lids or tour-pak,) then you'll adjust the rear gain controls so you can balance the output of the tweeters to match the standard fairing speakers.

Will the amp setup be ok with my 2013 Street Glide from the amp setup advisory video you did for the 2014 + I currently set up my amp as instructed from that video. I set up the front/rear input levels at the 12 O’clock position, the EQs at min, the freqs at 80 Hz, set at 2 CH, and both HP.

Hi Street Gliderz, great question! Since your '13 model doesn't have the H-D EQ setting and doesn't need to be flashed, you should be O.K. to install the system without connecting the REMote turn-on wire. The TM400X4ad amplifier has "signal sense" so it detects the DC Offset from the speaker outputs on that radio version. The REMote turn-on wire is used after flashing a '14 or newer motorcycle. When the radio is flashed on those models, it disables the DC Offset on the speaker outputs, so the signal sense can no longer turn on the amplifier automatically.

My new ? Is the amp isn't turning on is there a fuse on the amp itself. The fuse in the power wire as broke I replaced it with the same amp fuse and no power please help

No, there are no internal fuses inside the amplifier. If the amplifier is not turning on, use a small jumper wire between the B+ and the REM terminal on the amp. If it turns-on, then the amp is not properly seeing the DC Offset from the radio speaker outputs. You'll want to connect the REMote turn-on wire from the amplifier to the Blue wire from the radio harness. To verify you have the correct wire from the bike harness, measure the voltage with your DVM by turning the ignition on (to turn the radio power on). It should be +12V when "on" and 0V when "off". If the amplifier is not turning on and you verified the fuse is O.K., then the amplifier will need to be replaced. You can contact Rockford Fosgate technical support at 1-800-669-9899 to verify the amplifier is dead and get a replacement started right away.

Installation is 98% similar with the following exceptions: 1) The amplifier inputs will be connected to the corresponding speaker outputs (not RCA) of the Alpine radio instead of the factory radio. We recommend this since most radio speaker outputs have better voltage over RCA outputs. 2) The amplifier input sensitivity will be adjusted according to the Alpine's output voltage (the amp is supplied with instructions on how to set the input and output settings). Actually it's a good thing you brought this up ... the Alpine radio most likely has different chassis mounting screws. You may need to customize how the amplifier heatsink gets attached to the radio chassis by drilling different holes through the mounting bracket.

It is difficult to sometimes demonstrate audio systems because you're trying to convey Sound Quality on a 0.50 cent microphone. Plus, most camera microphones cannot withstand the SPL generated and can easily distort.
