Considering that their playoff win that year was in Dallas and they didn't have further success until they moved to the new stadium, this was the greatest moment ever at Sun Devil Stadium NFL-wise.

It feels like once they got their new stadium they are actually an NFL franchise and not a farm team for the rest of the NFL. I was in the last row of the upper deck during this game, which was where I’d usually watch. The difference that day was that there were actually other fans up there as well. And for once, they were Cards fans. It didn’t happen overnight, and sure, the franchise would continue to struggle for the next several years (their worst yr in AZ was last season). But with their own stadium, Michael Bidwill taking over for his father as President, actually drafting successful players and spending money, and developing a proud fan base who actually attends the games, this win really ended the team’s worst era in the Valley, as well as bthe apathy that surrounded the organization for those first 10 yrs in Arizona. It was a great day.

We rushed the field and we even got to briefly meet the legendary Junior Seau. Nearly 24 years later, we still reminisce about that game. Sadly, this team hasn’t given us much to talk about in the last 4 years other than when will Kliff & Steve get shown the door 😂.

The fact that the fans stormed the field and tore down the goalpost was probably inspired by the same thing happening on the same field a couple years earlier. That was when ASU (led by Jake Plummer & Pat Tillman) upset the 2x defending national champion Huskers and ended their 26 game winning streak. The fans stormed the field and tore down the goalpost, then paraded down the nearby bar strip (Mill Ave) with the goalpost.
@1withtheflow1025 жыл бұрын
A classic gritty football team that made Arizona proud to have adopted them 10yrs earlier from St. Louis. I've struggled being a fan of this team but watching this is refreshing. They'd lost a couple games to Dallas by way of controversial calls at that point, so to beat the Cowboys in the wildcard game that year felt extra good. They're the underdog team of the league but they've progressively earned more respect here in Arizona. This is the oldest team in the NFL with a unique history that started in Chicago, briefly merged with Pittsburgh, moved to Missouri and eventually to their final nesting home, in Arizona. A superbowl win is long overdue.
