Its good that is an automatic. You know the previous owner didn't care to run the car hard so it was mostly likely taken better care of... Just buy it and swap in a 5 speed!

... I'm an original '98 M3 owner - still have it - and would recommend 97/98 model year - but the 95-96 with the 3.0L S50 w/ ODBI has the M50 manifold and is much more tunable... so there is definitely an argument the S50 is just as good if not better to some. And the M3 sedan seats aren't 'perfect' they actually suck (coupe vader seats are better). There is almost no side bolster and spirited driving sucks as you try to hold yourself in the seat. Lastly the E36 M3 is becoming just as much a collector car as the E30.. take care of it.
