I just installed new tran cooler lines on my my new transmission. Take the fan and fan shroud off and you got all the room in the world. It's worth the effort trust me.

Once your done and transmission filled double check the connections on the transmission to ensure there are no leaks. One of the connections on mine had to be tightened again to stop a slow leak.

I’ve started this same job you’ve posted. My main problem was forgetting to take pics. Your post and description of what you had to do was very helpful. I’ve taken the line out and put back at least three times. When I get to connecting lines at transmission , the lines don’t meet up just right. I have them in the brackets before trying to connect. After watching your video, over and over, it should be a breeze now. These lines should’ve been made in sections.

Yes, you should’ve taken pictures. LoL. I wish they would’ve made them hard lines from the transmission oil cooler that transition to soft lines for easier routing.

Just watched the video after removal of the starter and disconnected linkage to the trans. Now I can’t finaggle the new ones in. I did a no no in the mechanic world and cut the lines to get them out. Now I am having so much trouble getting the new ones in! Wish me luck 🍀

Did you bend them back into place like the originals? I replaced mine awhile ago, and found that they don’t “mate” up like the originals.
@djbroussard82

I did not have to bend any lines.

hey if you know the part number(s) of the lines you used or where you purchased them I’d really appreciate that information.

Does a 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.9 magnum come factory with a oil cooler?
@djbroussard82
@djbroussard82 Жыл бұрын
All automatic transmissions will have an oil cooler. Manual transmissions usually will not as they do not produce the amount of heat that an automatic transmission will.

Maybe my cheap Chinese Harbor Freight 19mm has a little more wiggle room. Have you tried a 3/4” wrench? I believe they are a hair bigger.

Hello, what can cause transmission fluid to leak all over the top of the engine bay? It only leaks badly when I'm driving otherwise it won't leak while idle so I can't see where it's coming from. My 1500 also has a transmission cooler. It's a 2001.
@djbroussard82
@djbroussard82 Жыл бұрын
Make sure your transmission is full, put on your parking brake, put the truck in drive and take a look under the hood. Put additional chocks on the wheel just in case, but this way you’ll be able to find your leak. Mine was leaking near the firewall from being old and rubbing.

@@djbroussard82 thank you I'll have an update when I find the leak.
@djbroussard82
@djbroussard82 Жыл бұрын
You’re welcome. Also, do not stand in front of the vehicle when trying to look for the leak and wear some safety glasses in case you somehow take trans fluid to the face. You should be able to spot it cause the trans lines are easy to follow. If it doesn’t leak with how I said then get a second person to give it a little gas to increase line pressure because it may be a pin prick hole.
@djbroussard82
@djbroussard82 Жыл бұрын
If that does not work you will need to chock the front tires, jack up the back of the truck, put the axle on jack stands and allow the rear tires to turn. Someone can slowly increase the speed in Drive, let the transmission shift through the gears and eventually you’ll find it.

@@djbroussard82 hello again, so I tried the first method you recommended and it seems to be from the transmission cooler! The puddle underneath the car also seems to be right in the exact area. From what I can tell the transmission fluid was seeping through the radiator and into the fan cover thus causing the bad leak. Just to make sure I'll replace the transmission cooler and have another update if that stopped the leak. Thank you for your help I'll definitely have an update. Also the dipstick was almost empty and it was around max level.

When I put my truck in drive and give it gas it jerks real hard then starts moving any idea what could be making it do that every time I come to a stop and try to go it does the same thing jerks hard then drives
@djbroussard82
@djbroussard82 2 жыл бұрын
First and foremost make sure your transmission fluid level is correct. This will definitely cause this issue, but so will faulty solenoids in the transmission.

What if the 19mm part lines start to twist with it
@djbroussard82
@djbroussard82 13 күн бұрын
You’re talking about the OLD transmission lines twisting while trying to remove them right? If you’re replacing them then I’d say crank away . . . that fitting will come loose. I’d let it soak for a while with penetrating spray first though.
