This was my first car, a yellow sporting 99 model. I wasn't very happy with getting it at the time, but as time went on I realised how blessed I was, I didn't pay a penny for it, my parents bought it. As I got older, I realised that parents buying their kids a carr, paying their fuel and insurance and driving lessons is not the norm. Thankfully whilst I was doing my a levels in 2006 they found me a job at a pub which I'd have to work at otherwise they'd take it all away from me! The best lesson of my life. Learning the value of money.

I have a 2002 Sceicento SX. It is very enjoyable to drive, easy to park and has low group 3 U.K. insurance. Problems with theses cars - as originally designed as a left hand drive the clutch cable goes through the bulkhead on passenger side. As is right hand drive it is connected by linkage rods under the dashboard causing strain on the hook end of the cable and subsequent snapping. Be prepared to have to change the cable every few thousand miles and you have to be physically flexible to do it. Also factory fitted rubber suspension bushes are poor quality so need to be changed when they start to knock over bumps. Otherwise brilliant car with non of the reputation of Fiat rust as car was manufactured using galvanised sheet steel.

I'm 14 and I'm a car enthusiast and I love the seicento. I want to get the 1.1 machael Schumacher sporting edition with the best specs but if I can't get one I would prefer to drive a 0.9 MIA version instead of another first car.

Hi there, I'm 18 & have a 2004 Punto 188, 1.2, 8 valve engine with some minor & major modifications. Firstly, well done in wanting a Fiat, I fell in love with the Punto. I think you will too with the Seicento, however, adding bodykits & decals etc do add to your insurance, as I found out. But if you are willing to put up with that then go ahead, nothing wrong with being colourful & creative. Happy & safe driving bro. - Adam427 www.fiatforum.com

Yeah, tbh a 1.1 and that size of car should still keep your insurance low. Also if you don't mind getting your hands greasy & dirty, parts are cheaper for these older Fiats, such as stiffer springs & shock absorbers (which really do make a difference around corners) can range between £70-£150, which is amazingly cheap for the full set. Also as from my experience, eventhough is not a big engine, should upgrade the front brakes to EBC brakes (discs & pads) not only will it stop you quicker, but prevents the gases building up and creating a non-contact with the pads & discs. I ken you'll know most of this anyway, but just giving you a heads up. Also if you want it a bit nippier, fling in a K&N air filter (they are slightly dearer cause its the oval, retro style air filter) and a sportex/hoffmann/beesting or any performance exhaust back box. DO NOT de-cat your manifold, it will not pass the MOT. If you are serious about this stuff, sign up to www.fiatforum.com, they give you tips & hints and where people are buying & selling Fiats, might be able to get a Seicento very cheaply, www.fiatforum.com also does an insurance package too that may also lower your insurance, being that you'd be a young driver. Take care & all the best my Fiat friend - see you on the road!

+Adam Townsend Thanks, I signed up on the fiat forum and put your username down for referring me. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with me 👍 I will definitely upgrade to discs because one thing the Seicento in not good at is protecting occupants in a crash. Just have to wait a couple of years so that I'm old enough to learn how to drive and hope they're still going cheap. Enjoy your car🚗

@@freeair7292 wow this is a blast from the past! No I didn't unfortunately, I passed my driving test at 18 but couldn't afford to buy and run a car until I was 19 and I couldn't find any 600s for sale in my area plus I wanted a more practical small car so I ended up buying a Renault clio. I done a walkaround video of it on my channel so feel free to check it out.

I've had/driven 3 of these over the past 20+ years, and have nothing but positive experiences with them. How sympathetic in general are you with your Seicento?? I've happily been up and down the country in them, and have done so perfectly satisfied with their characteristics. _Character,_ is indeed one thing they have in abundance - rare for new cars to have even at that time. Driven quite powerful and well handling cars such as a C5 2.0HDi VTR, and even with that, the Seicento is perfectly satisfactory to live with, even after driving that express. I think they definitely deserve an accolade as a collectable classic.
